I think this still counts as jazz. He is probably my favorite guitarist. Or John McLaughlin.

Yes, still jazz. I had a fun time discovering fusion jazz when my older brother joined the marines and left his album collection behind. Al Di Meola, Stanley Clarke, George Benson, George Duke, Chick Corea, and many others. Musician’s musicians. I used to drive my roommates in college crazy with this stuff. Check out George Duke with Billy Cobham go on this one.

Not exactly jazz in the absolute strictest sense, but continuing the fusion-ish run.

There really should be a blues thread. I think Peter Green’s genius is something very few people know about.

@Charlie_Jack, that’s a real nice tune by Bunny Berigan. Close your eyes and get transported back to another time.

It’s one of my favorites.

No way! What an amazing story.

In New York, on the day of the recording, August 7, 1937, Berigan was late, leading several band members to find him drunk in a bar on 147th Avenue. Taking him to Victor Studios, Berigan was so intoxicated his band members had to hold him up so he could sing and play trumpet. By the end of the song, as Berigan hit high E and finished, the band remained quiet; Astonished by Bergian’s technical skill in spite of his drunken stupor, several members of his orchestra paid for cuts of the record to keep for themselves.

As a denizen of the great KC for a quarter of a century, I grew very fond of the musical heritage of the city. Enjoy.

Ben Webster doing what he does best. Don’t know how he gets that airy sound (not that I’m a sax player or anything). And I do love how he hits those low notes with gusto. They add a little flavor to what would becoming boring done by most any other tenor saxophonist.
