Best places to see fall colors in Taiwan

Are they any good places in Taiwan where you can see fall colors, leaves changing color? Taipei prefered, but anywhere is Taiwan should be fine.

You can take Yilan off the map; everything is green 365 days a year, with the only exception of Sakura trees in early Winter…

I was joking with my dad who was visiting last week from Colorado, “See, Taiwan has ‘evergreens’ too!”

We publish pics when the leaves are changing. I can update when we have info.

I don’t know if Taiping mountain has a period of color change…when I’ve been there it either 100% green or 100% pink from all Sakuras,

Department stores are good to see the new season fall colors.

Aowanda National Park in Nantou County is supposed to be the best place to see fall colors. It’s got lots of maples.

When is the best time to go to Aowanda?

Closer to Taipei would be a day trip to Shimen Reservoir. The surrounding forest does turn many colors. Problem is the dates depend on the weather.

Smangus area is also good supposedly but it’s a big trip into the mountains .

Aowanda is the most famous in Taiwan.

Does that mean there will be busloads of tourists?

Aowanda is very very popular the area jams up and books up.

Smangus is also popular and even more difficult to drive into than Aowanda. There are no buses into smangus only vans and small mini buses at most.

Both are very special places I’ve heard but I’ve only visited Smangus area myself and abandoned a trip to Aowanda once as it took so long to get there.

Typically leaves don’t turn red until around November or even later.

Wuling farm down south is also very popular for Taiwanese to visit in autumn and winter. Its booked by the retired civil servant brigade with lots of money and time on their hands.

I did a cross island car trip down the spine of Taiwan last year was pretty awesome, we started in lalashan and down past lots of those farms all the way down to Wu ling.

汐止拱北殿 is close to Taipei.

Aowanda has no public transportation according to the web site. Seems you need to rent a car or make other arrangements.

The ones close to taipei seem worth checking out as do yushan and ali shan.

Thank for the tips.

Miaoli perhaps.

Been there, it was disappointing.

There are small tour buses to reach there and back (i forgot from where)

Another spot close to taipei.
