British guy and Taiwanese girlfriend. Where to live?

OP long gone but I have to disagree on Taiwan being a career killer for engineers. I’m an engineer and the two years I spent working for a Taiwanese tech company were just about right for seeing things from the inside here and learning where the bodies are buried. Any more than a year or two would be a waste of time and effort though because of the low quality of professionalism here. Having my own company after that stint with a local was a huge boost to my career though because it’s solid international experience on my resume and I’ve only been limited by my own abilities and ambition. As a company owner the range of technologies and projects I’ve been exposed to is far greater than anything I experienced working “back home” because so much technology has moved to Asia. Being a Western engineer who speaks Mandarin is also a rare, valued commodity in the West.
