Butterflies and Moths in Taiwan

I got one of those a few years ago. :discodance:

how did you get it to land on your finger?[/quote]

Ever see butterflies on dog shit? Well, imagine a dog with a facial expression like this :astonished: and youā€™ll know the magical ingredient on my finger.

Just kidding. I was walking along a road in Yangmingshan when I noticed it crawling across the tarmac in front of me. The weather was pretty hot and the temperature of the road surface must have been way too high for it, yet it was having trouble flying for some reason (perhaps it had just emerged because it looked in immaculate condition). Anyway, I stood in its way and it happily crawled onto my shoe. Then I bent down and stuck my hand in front of it and it simply crawled onto my hand. I took a few pics as it crawled around and that was the best one. Afterwards I took it to the side of the road it was heading to originally and put it on a tree trunk in the shade.

Saw these at Fujoushan Park. Sorry for the bad quality.

Common Bluebottle (Graphium sarpedon)

Thanks Chris.

Graphium sarpedon subsp. connectens (Fruhstorfer, 1906) é’é³³č¶

Why connectens? Is there any connecting involved?

Letā€™s see what their caterpillars look like:

Excellent photos in there!

Gorgeous. How can something so beautiful be called common?

Seen today in Zhonghe. A rather common butterfly.

A Timelaea maculata (č±¹ē“‹č¶ or ē™½č£³č²“č›ŗč¶) ?

The caterpillar has antlers, which is kind of cool.

There were 4 swallowtail butterflies playing together on a remote trail on the north side of Yangmingshan a couple of weeks. This one stopped and posed which is rare for swallowtails in my experience.

Papilio hermosanus 台ē£ē‰ē’ƒēæ é³³č¶

Itā€™s rare to see one that green.

Iā€™ll hazard a guess that a flash was used, and youā€™re seeing reflections off its scales.

No flash but it wasnā€™t that sparkly in real life.

Yeah I see a lot of pictures like that, and always wonder why.

looks like a tank.

Well, thank you! Nah, I am not a good nature photographer. There are millions of people better than me at that.

A rather common butterfly, but one I like. Seen today at Mt. Datun, Yangmingshan.

Gorgeous!
