Charlottesville protests

OK, I feel sorry now.

Just kidding! Ran out of piccolo.

Antifa is a group whose express purpose is to disrupt. They’re the ones that go protest G20 conventions and trade talks. It seems clear in this instance, it was the leftist Antifa that attacked first. I wouldn’t call anyone willingly taking part of disruption and violence as a means to achieve political goals as “normal college kids with a strong sense of ethics.”

Everyone condemns neo-nazis and white supremacists, their beliefs and violence, that’s not what this is all about. The media is trying to cast this in a way that we’re so busy, up in arms about the nazis, that we forget the other side, which are morally justified in violence. We must be responsible to condemn both sides. Just because one condemns violence on the left does not equate such a one with nazism.

Seriously? You would like to discuss Germany’s immigration policy over the last few years?

I seriously was not talking about Germany’s immigration policies, neither did I imply that I want to. You know, the sites policies on going off topic.

I was replying to jotham’s ideas of the American immigration policies.

Right now, this topic is about the Charlottesville protests.
However, it went all deep shit all the way to Washington, Clinton, Merkel, and so on.
Now Germany?
It must be a very hard job defending this President if you have to go through such twisted length to do so.

Holy Shit! You STILL missed the point! OK, I will try to be as clear as I can. THEY BOTH came to power using the same fear tactics. With Trumpo, it is Mexicans, Muslims, Immigrants. With Bobo it was Kosovo Albanians. I never said anything about immigration with SM. And you STILL got it wrong. He was not trying to keep Kosovo in. He was trying to kick the ethnic Albanians out.

You have this unhealthy obsession with Obama. I’m just gonna say it. Obama did orchestrate deportations (well, not he in the literal sense), but it went through the legal means. He just did not knock on people’s doors and say “get out!” The US is anything, it is a nation of laws. And a constitution that 45 is doing his best to dismantle. Except when it suits him.

Actually, the US is one of the few countries that does not require proficiency in the de facto language. That right. De facto. English is NOT the official language of the US. There is none. And soon, English will be the minority language. Whether Spanish or Mandarin wins that battle, is anyone’s guess. You know there are 7 European languages spoken in the Americas? Guess what, English is not the majority! It is a common language, little more. Did you know many official forms of the US government are bi-lingual!? I bet you just recoiled on that! Ready for a real shaker? If you have a passport, then you will notice that it is written in 3 languages! To be fair, most passports are in 2 languages.

My grandfather went to America and bought into the whole capitalist ideology. Tried to open a restaurant. The local bosses, and the politicians in their pockets, put an end to that experiment. See, if you ever worked in a restaurant, or tried to open a small business, you get to see how the invisible hand gives the middle finger to those who do not grease the wheels. Good luck on getting rid of that!

And there is no education requirement.

That is what other nations have. England, the Netherlands, even my little Taiwan, they all have a “special talents” clause in their immigration laws. America does not. So are you saying the US needs to go along and do what other countries do? You mean like, give health insurance to their citizens? And then we can have anti-hate laws! Even Russia has all that! Including the language and education thing.

Keep trying, you are so close!!

He isn’t a politician, which is why he is loved. All the other republicans would kow-tow to the Democrat’s arrangement of things, the political order, and Trump sees through all that. Yeah, it might have been easier just to condemn the neonazis at first, but we need to shed light on the other side, because they are much more powerful and influential voice than the neonazis, however despicable they be.

The elephant in the room is that they are the military branch of the Democrat party, helping them achieve their goals, which is why it’s uncouth and not PC to unmask them. Trump is doing the right thing.

Agreed. You would make a good mod Hamletintaiwan, I will take that as my cue to fall back into the curtains.

What instance? You mean protesting the raping of the 3rd world, by those in the 1st? Propping up tin-pot dictators to keep resources flowing smoothly to 1st world industries? Keeping a region in perpetual violence so the oil can flow freely? Crushing, or not supporting democracies because they will alter the trade agreement that is bleeding their nation? This is somehow a good thing?

Yugoslavia could hardly be called communist if you talk about economics. Communism is only a name. They had a falling out with the Soviet Union in 1948. They liberalized their economy and decentralized their political apparatus in the 50s, which sped up in the 60s. Of course their standard of living would be closest to that of a democracy, even though they had a dictator (who practiced some liberty with its people). It’s almost akin to Pinochet, who was a dictator, brutal against dissent, but practiced free markets and caused Chile to be the best Latino country as far as living standards.

Should we remove statues of President Woodrow Wilson or rename buildings at Princeton because he re-instituted segregation in fed civil service positions or approved the notorious Palmer raids? Or President Grant for his anti-Semitism as a Union Civil War general (until that order was rescinded by Lincoln)? Or should we remove statues of Lenin as the one in Seattle? Monuments to FDR/Earl Warren because of their approval of Japanese internment during WW2? Why just highlight statues of Confederate generals as being against modern day sensibilities? Some Confederate generals and cabinet ministers were highly respectable such as Judah Benjamin (whose books on contract law are still used today) or General Longstreet (who later was very anti-KKK and served in Republican admins). I am for keeping statues so future gens can learn from them (while disliking the groups protesting on both sides).

And if we remove statues based on ties to slavery or owning slaves, we should remove statues for a lot more people including PMs Gladstone and Palmerston (Gladstone`s family profited from slave trade, and both Palmerston and Gladstone supported the Confederacy), Simon Bolivar, Julius Caesar, US Grant (Union general had slaves in early life), Alexander Hamilton, and the Marquis de Lafayette. And why has Canada not renamed Mt. Petain? Canada celebrates Vichy and fascism?

The media specifically doesn’t want him to notice or condemn Antifa. Trump knows this, so of course he’s going to condemn them, because they need condemning too. That’s what got him in hot water with the media, and he knew it would, so he made sure he expressed himself very clearly that he was condemning everyone, not just nazis. This is the confrontation that needed to happen with the media.

I know I am late to the conversation here. .

But I am from Chicago. I did theatre there and was in the ‘art scene’. AKA pretty much the most ‘left’ place you can get.

There is literally not one conservative or right-wing point of view on my Facebook feed. It’s exhausting. I used to be pretty moderate, slightly to the left. Trump used to cause me to recoil quite drastically. I used to think he’s this terrible racist, etc.

Well my views have altered since. And I dared to express those publicly. (I literally said that I didn’t think Trump made fun of a reporter’s disability and that Shaun King shouldn’t try to deceive people into thinking he did) .

And suddenly I was branded a “Trump Supporter”/“Nazi”/“White Supremacist”/“Alt-Right”/ by those I thought were once my friends. People I went to school with for years literally started a messaging chain on Facebook to ‘watch out for me’. I also mentioned that maybe, just maybe, we should be talking a little more about the laws passed under the Johnson administration and not as much about white people appropriating dreadlocks.

Completely ostracized from my community. Lost my comedy writing gig. Theatres won’t work with me. (Look up ChiTAC. “Chicago Theatre Accountability Coalition” that now looks out for the community in regards to ‘hate speech’.) Total and complete witch hunt. And now I’m in Taiwan because there’s no way I can survive that madness for another second.

Well after this week. There’s a whole lot of people on my Facebook feed (which i lurk on obviously. never post.) who are now calling for violence against Nazis. The same people who call me a Nazi. They are literally posting informational pages on how to join antifa.

It’s terrifying and I couldn’t agree more with what Trump said in his press conference about there being violence on ‘both sides’. And it would take me a while now to believe that every single person at that rally is a white supremacist/nazi.
It’s like the boy who cried wolf. But this time its the media who cried nazi. Kind of hard to buy into it especially in regards to a huge rally of separate groups.

They come to America because we can better recompense them for their expertise and genius. Our freer markets are better able to reward those who strive and succeed, whereas socialism tends to penalize success and has less wherewithal to do so anyhow.

I’m having a hard time understanding your rhetoric, and your sense of reason is off too. Trump has never played on anyone’s fears of Mexicans or Muslims, or any specific ethnicity. He is unabashed about calling out Islamic terrorism when it happens, just as he talks about left-wing violence, and he talked about the need to control the border, and referenced illegal immigration. But the nation was already worried about these things as the president’s job deals with exactly these issues, and Obama wasn’t doing his job. He was playing politics instead of being president and upholding all the law whether he agrees with it or not.

To become a citizen, one has to speak, write English. Historically, speaking English has been an easier way to immigrate to USA.

This is one area you’re seeing the opportunism of the Democrat Party. In 2008, before Obama, they party platform was against illegal immigration and the need to speak English, but in 2016, all that language has been erased, because the Democrats saw the growing rise of Latinos as their new base of voters to give them an electoral advantage over Republicans.

There have been more deportations under Obama than Trump so far, but there are factors to consider. The number of people flowing into the country illegally has gone way down since Trump took office. They’re afraid to do so, we hardly need the wall anymore.

Also, Obama concentrated his deportations on illegals that are criminals (other than entering illegally), which are relatively easier to deport. Trump says they all have to go, so the court backlog is greater. Deporting any illegal immigrant is in compliance with our laws and Constitution. In fact, to ignore them is not in compliance with our laws and Constitution.

Free markets are not applied equally throughout the USA as different states are more onerous than others, like New York under Democrats, or any state under Democrats. And we definitely aren’t a 100% free market under federal laws. So your grandfather’s restaurant may have had a hard time if he didn’t network with the Democrats enough, if they were running the town.

But yes, we need immigration to be as it normally is, we need better control over who comes in our country and help us make it great in accordance to American ideals. Immigration is for our sake, not theirs.

I have no qualms with them expressing their political views. But I do have reservations about them resorting to violence when they can’t persuade.

It is so cute when you try to tutor me on Yugoslavia. You must be from there, or have lived there, and have a direct connections there. Molim vas, reci mi više, gospodine stručnjak!!!

I don’t have to live in Serbia to understand economics. The laws of economics work similarly anywhere around the globe.

That aside, I have been teaching myself Serbian and Croatian, along with 25 other languages (Polish, Czeck, Bulgarian, Ukraine, Russian as well), but should be more fluent in 2 years.

Zing!

And Trump is kinda soft on supporters of terrorism, even more so than Obama. Obama wanted to make nice with Iran, but wasn’t about to sell them missiles!

Want more?

Says who? Just need to know just enough to pass a test, that is all.

Could it be they like the dems because they are nicer, and not as antagonistic towards them?
If you believe the law is the law, and should be applied equally, then can you get mad at the cop who pulls you over for going “a little” over the speed limit? Maybe not crossing at a crosswalk, or getting a jump on the light?

Ahem. I am worried about you and I am trying to help you, son. You need to stop pretending that this fantasy theory of no-government capitalism will swing in and save the day. Reality check. It will not. It will give in to corruption, just like everything else. In fact, it has.

Bosses have no political affiliations. They go with whoever they can payoff. It does not matter dem or rep. Even in Texas. At one point, I worked for a GM who was so far to the right, Limbaugh was a bleeding heart. I am serious. Yet, he knew who to pay and not to pay to get things taken care of. Just pay a little here and there, and your competitions deliveries slow down, or cease.

If you look at the donations lists for real power players like Gates, and Buffett, and even Murdoch and corporations like Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Media Corp, you will see that they give to both sides. They hedge their bets to see who will play ball with them. That is why
Microsoft got into trouble. Gates made too many enemies, politically.

See, as I have been trying to tell you it doesn’t matter. Left, right, democracy, or not. Socialist or capitalist. It doesn’t matter. It is all ruled by corruption. Whose palms get greased. That is just the real world.

Your hatred of Obama, and reasonings, is at Alex Jones levels.

Why not remove the statue of Robert KKK Byrd?

Notice that no one has demanded that statues of former senator and KKK icon Robert Byrd be removed, statues honoring the hard-core former white nationalist whom Hillary Clinton once called her friend and mentor, including one prominently displayed in the West Virginia state capitol:

Yep. Grease the right palms, to get things done. Everyone gets a slice. If you think I am wrong, open a pizza shop next to an established brand and bite into their profits. I hope you have deep pockets, or connected investors. Otherwise, you are toast. That is, if they do not have deep-pocketed, or well connected investors or managers.

Why would you say it like that? That is like saying I am learning American and British. Why not learn Slovenian? Then you can get a wife, like your hero! If you are rich. Those Slavic girls really only like boys with toys, if you follow me.
