Daily Photos - Part 13

Yes, but most European countries make up for their beautiful architecture and scenery with stagnant socialist economies, outrageous prices and lack of opportunity, so things balance out in the end. :sunglasses:

They might be very expensive, but their purchasing power is also very strong. I’d go with those outrageous prices if it means that I can have their salary, which is, idk, maybe 10 times more than what a regular Taiwanese gets paid. Lol.

Btw there are cheap places in those countries too, some of those countries are not that expensive to begin with(for example, Germany).

This is Mammuthöhle (Mammoth Cave), a huge cave complex at Dachstein in Austria.

There are no mammoths here; it’s just really, really big. The winding labyrinthine passages snake more than 60 km into the mountains, but there is only one entrance and one exit.

This is the Ice Cave. Filled with ice year-round and open only during summer months when there is relatively less of it. This pillar is 9 m tall, and as I recall the ice on the ground is at least 10 m thick. (See the shadows of people in the bottom right for scale.)

Something not from Taiwan for a change
I found this abandoned greenhouse out in the countryside in Richmond, B.C., a few years back:

Stable economies with a stable government showing 1% growth is a by-product of the developed world. I’d be very surprised if Taiwan’s economy doesn’t end up like the Philippines in 20 years’ time or less, and then we’ll have shit architecture, dangerous food, dangerous traffic, probably a dangerous government, dangerous inflation and no social welfare. However Europe, with it’s ‘stagnant’ socialist economies, will be just fine.

Clear skies over Salzburg.

Obscene number of horse-drawn carriages. We meant to ride one but sort of forgot about it until we were already at the airport. Oops.

You mean to tell me not all riversides are parking lots with huge concrete walls?

Classic Salzburg. And a bit oversaturated. I should fix that.

Bonus: glittery ghost of Mozart.

papaija, I absolutely love how sharp all of your pictures are.

Second-to-last post from Europe. Vienna, a charming city though I still prefer Prague.

Prague and Vienna are like the top 2 cities that I want to visit the most atm.

Once the center of power in Europe, this imperial palace more than resembles the Forbidden City and the hill behind it to me.

State Opera House:

And that does it for Europe. Whenever I post more pictures they’ll be from the good old Ilha Formosa.

Schönbrunn
That Klimt is amazing. I thought you’d post some pics of Prague though.

I did! They’re back on previous pages.

from the hotel I stayed at somewhere in Czech (probably MariĂĄnskĂ© LĂĄzně)
 thought they looked pretty awesome.

I hope no one minds a return to Taiwan
