Dependent visa for child

Hi all!

My girlfriend and I (both American) are looking for English teaching positions in Taiwan, but we have a daughter that is almost 2 years old that we would like to bring with us. My understanding is that you can usually get a dependent visa (that you need to pay for out of pocket) for your child if you have obtained a work visa yourself. Does anyone know if this is true? If anyone could help point me in the right direction for visa information for children that would be really helpful! Thank you so much!

It does seem to be possible based on this; check item 5

After you have your own ARC you can sponsor your dependents. It only takes a few days You can apply in the same immigration office that you get your own ARC from. For me that was in Taipei: http://www.immigration.gov.tw/mp.asp?mp=2.

You might want to have the birth cert translated and authenticated in the Taiwan office in the US, or in the US office in Taipei. Safer to do it before you leave I would guess.

You might also be better to arrive on a Visa that you got in the US, if you arrive visa free there might be a run around or a visa run to Hong Kong.
