Does anyone order from iHerb? Custom fees? (and other US vitamin/supplement shops)

You get the credit due to the last purchase you made, it’s used to discount your next purchase, it isn’t a continually increasing amount. You’re getting the reminder because it’s be X weeks since you last ordered something so the loyalty credit will expire.

Should be like that, buyt it is increasing and it is not being deducted, not from the last couple of purchases.

Will write to them the soonest, as I have an order I want to place before Christmas.

Silly possibilities:

  • Make sure you’ve logged in. Sometimes iHerb “half-remembers” me and may have my cart but not my discount.
  • Click through to “Proceed to Checkout”. Do you see “Savings: Loyalty Credit” at the bottom? I believe sometimes I don’t see the loyalty credit when I’m just looking at the cart, but it appears later, at the checkout stage (but before clicking on “Place Order”).
  • Try a different browser.

Remember there is a 10% discount promo running until the 30th on orders over 40US, use YEAREND10 as the promo code when checking out

10% discount for new customers will end in January 3rd 2017. Last chances to use it. http://supplementnews1.blogspot.com

It’s not only for new customers, it’s for any customers, I posted the code above.

U are mixing 2 different offers.
New customers have had discount always by codes. This will end January 3rd.
Now they have temporary YEAREND10 for all ending couple days earlier.

Has iHerb changed their shipping options for DHL? Shipping used to become significantly cheaper once your cart reached a certain value, and then slowly edged up (I don’t remember the value); I’m not seeing that anymore. Instead the shipping just starts around NT$500 and keeps going up and up and up.

Hi dragonlady… would you be able to direct me to where you found the FDA ruling regarding licenses for small quantities of goods please?
I’m having a similar problem now being asked to apply for a licence to import whey protein

Formosa_Fitness FedEx are saying I need to apply for a license to import protein powder. Seems odd for just one tub? I see you seem to know the laws on protein imports, is there a quantity or weight that is exempt?

NCR, that was a while ago. I don’t have any links. I do recall visiting the FDA website and looking at the laws and regulations. Also a local lawyer friend called the FDA to confirm that there was no need for an import license for less than 6 liters and a value of less than USD1,000. Even with that information I could not get my shipment released. It took more phone calls to learn that I had to apply for permission to use the exemption from a requirement that didn’t even apply to my case. Goofy. The FDA gave me instructions by phone and sent me a form.

According to DHL, an import license is required for whey protein if the shipment contains 6kg or more and is valued at USD1,000 or more. Perhaps the situation with whey is the same as with oil, and you need to apply for permission to be exempt from the licensing requirement.

In my experience, these issues crop up if a shipment is selected for random inspection.

I suggest you call the FDA and ask what is required. They will find someone who can communicate with you in English if necessary.

Good luck.

Thanks very much for the info. I will try the FDA, but coming to the realisation that this like so much else here could be like trying to get blood from a stone

Just placed an order at iHerb. Their order form has fee information for orders shipped to Taiwan.

For what it’s worth, here is a rewards code they sent me that is supposed to give you 5% off: FBL747. I don’t know how long it’s good for.

10% off best selling baby skin care brands plus 5% Rewards credit in the shopping cart

Offer Ends: Wednesday, November 1st, at 10:00 a.m. PST.

Maybe this applies more to “Wack Things in Taiwan”, but iHerb’s current policy of free shipping for orders over $60, with tariffs charged for orders over $65, and unclear rules about whether or not discounts and shipping cost apply to that $65 limit, makes it a pain to assemble a shopping cart. I’ve been doing things like cancelling a discount to bring the value slightly over a set amount, and therefore get free shipping, thus saving me more than the discount I’ve cancelled.

That shipping fee was indeed fishy. Free with local post? I paid 62 NTD for DHL.

And is the limit 2000 NTD or is it back to 3000?

iHerb itself says “Orders over USD $65.00 (NTD 2,000) may be subject to D&T.”

I’ve used the free SF Express shipping and it was good - one order even arrived within three days! They want you to register a Taiwan ID, but I haven’t done that, and it’s been fine so far. (I did try to register, but it led to a site where my poor Chinese + mere APRC made me give up). But it’s really threading a needle to hit the free shipping threshold, and yet be under $2,000. Plus I’m still unsure “which” $2,000 limit applies: the value of the order itself? What I paid for the shipment PLUS shipping PLUS the discounts? So far I’ve always tried to keep the total - i.e. what I’m paying on my credit card, and adding in the discounts that were taken off - under about $1950, and I haven’t had to pay any duty yet.

Who knows, maybe the duty’s not a big deal, but I don’t know how to figure it out, and I certainly want to avoid the bureaucratic hassle.

I tried registering Taiwan ID, meaning my APRC…no way Jose. It kept saying wrong format. So I gave them passport number…the wrong one NIA wrote on my APRC because they know better.

I also had to load, unload and repeat until barely there: 1700 NTD, shipping included. It is a PIA.

Duties can be pretty heft, copuple of coworkers who order supplements and food have been hit hard.
