Finding a hospital for absolving a surgery elective period

Dear fellow forumosians :),
I am a German medical student in my final year of study medicine… and I am looking for a possibility to do a 8-week elective period in the field of surgery in a hospital in Taiwan. It must be a teaching hospital, something like a university hospital or so.
Does anyone know whom I may contact for this rather special request?
I am able to speak Chinese, but not able to read it :(.

Thank you in advance :slightly_smiling_face:

Many, many years ago I dated a nurse from the Chang Gung hospital in Linkou and at faculty dinners they would generally have some foreign doctors and medical students. I don’t know what arrangements they were there under but you could try contacting the hospital group and asking https://www.cgmh.org.tw/eng2002/contact_mail.htm .

WanFang hospital is definitely a university teaching hospital but I’ve never seen a foreign doctor there, you can try contacting them also, http://www.taiwanhealthcare.com/english/index.aspx

I would have thought your university would have a list of eligible hospitals to chose from.

Thank you SuperS54 for that quick reply. My university has mentioned to me only one hospital, the National Taiwan University Hospital as one they would recognize (https://www.ntuh.gov.tw/en/about/default.aspx) . They also mentioned, that it must be a hospital with university teaching, otherwise they would reject it.
Thank you for your support, I will contact both hospitals now.

I am an occupational therapy major at NTU’s college of medicine (and will hopefully be a MD student this fall…hopefully) so if you have any questions about NTU in general feel free to ask me

NTUH, VGH Taipei/Taichung, Tri Service General Hospital, NCKUH, Mackay Memorial Hospital(s), Chang Gung Memorial Hospital(s), CMUH, Tzu Chi Hospital(s), KMUH are all University-affiliated teaching hospitals. There are many others!
