Immigrants From Hong Kong hits 16 year-high

Eh, considering the political/economical situation of HK, it’s not surprising.
Feels bad for HK, but not much we can do about it.

I actually find it very surprising. If I were HKer I would easily choose Canada or Australia etc. over Taiwan.

Taiwan is very close, similar enough food and culture, relatively cheap to rent and buy a house, they use traditional Chinese , freedom of politics and expression and it’s a lot easier and cheaper to emigrate to.

Basically you just buy a house and then try little businesses.
Seen some in Taichung and even HKer operated restaurants in the hinterland and suburbs (I’ve a feeling they are working class HK people…different groups).
They don’t need to give up their HK citizenship either or at least can easily get it back.

Sure wasn’t our president a HKer!!!
Not sure what is surprising!

Yea when I lived in Shenzhen there were lots and lots of Hong Kongers. I read somewhere that there is about a million. Most are very ordinary ‘blue collar’ types escaping the horrific Hong Kong rents, commuting back for nearly everything, doctor, school, et cetera. I think Taiwan is a better option than that.
