I don’t like the way they sentence people without them having any say. I’ve never been in trouble but it seems barbaric to not be able to face the judges before they decide.
Depends on the severity of the crime.
If it falls under summary sentencing then the most they could give you is 6 months imprisonment (with the ability to pay a fine to commute it).
In that case you don’t go before the judge, they send you a letter telling you the sentence.
If it’s indictment, then you must appear before a judge for sentencing.
