Le Blanc Taipei

Hey Guys,

We’ve recently opened a steak frites restaurant in Daan District. My name is Long and i’m the chef and owner. We do one thing and one thing only. 10oz of Prime USDA Certified Angus Beef. It comes with all the fries you can eat and a nice romaine salad and popover. All of that comes for 1000nt and if you want you can add a dessert, glass of wine, or side for 180nt but even if you don’t, we promise you wont leave hungry. I won’t go on and on but we’d love if you gave us a shot. Check us out on FB. Le Blanc Taipei. Thanks for your time.

Hi Long. I went to your place last night on the recommendation of a friend. She described it as “kid friendly” and we went to celebrate my kid’s 5th birthday. Although he was preoccupied the entire time trying to top his Angry Bird’s score, the rest of us enjoyed our meals very much. Will share my fuller review another time with pictures - just wanted you to know that we had a great time!

Hi Long,

GF and I came last Sunday to celebrate her birthday.

I really really liked the decor and feel of the restaurant. I walked in and immediately felt I was not in Taipei. I also found it interesting how the place could be family friendly AND pretty romantic for couples as well.

Service was very good and we have no complaints there. The speed in which appetizers and entrees came out was fast! I had read reviews on Yelp that your fries were bottomless, but your employees never mentioned that when explaining the menu, so gf and I thought it was a promotional thing.

Dear Ranlee,

My name is Alisha Bailey and I’m the restaurant manager at Le Blanc. Thank you so much for your email - it’s great to get feedback from our guests and we very much appreciate your support!
Our French fries are indeed bottomless! We have it written in our menu as "unlimited fries (無限量薯條 in Chinese) but I’ll be sure to remind our service team to include this in the menu introduction.

Thanks again for your feedback and we look forward to seeing you at Le Blanc again!

Best Regards,
Alisha

Hey guys!

Thanks so much for the great feedback. It can be difficult introducing a new concept to Taipei but I’m glad that at least the people who read this forum can appreciate it. Just to answer a few questions, we use only american beef. USDA Prime Certified Angus Beef. Those are 2 different certifications/grading systems and we use only the stuff that overlaps and meets both criteria. The cut we serve is a 10 oz ribeye. Upon request we can do a larger 20oz ribeye which is just double the meat and double the price. I hope this helps, please do let me know if there’s any other questions I can help with. Hope to see you guys again soon!

Long

Was gonna pop in and say “hey, I’ve been, it’s not bad at all” until I saw that the thread was a guerrilla marketing attempt. Then I started remembering.

I went on my birthday, and I the main complaint I had back then was that the pepper sauce was basically water with a few black peppers in it. Steak was decent though, got a (suspiciously small) 20oz steak to share with my girlfriend. Was sat right next to the bathroom door, which seemed to be a playground for the kids who were there that day, didn’t much enjoy that part.

Service was average. On occasion a waiter/waitress would bother attending to you, sometimes not.

Apropos of nothing else you said, I wouldn’t call it that. We welcome posts from business owners about local businesses, and being a venue for such posting is part of the reason this forum exists, always has been.

Hello meantek,
I apologize if you feel like the original post was guerilla marketing. My intent was only to introduce something new to the forum. As a first time restaurant owner with a concept new to Taipei, we rely on quickly gaining traction for survival. I thought this might be a good forum to start with, fellow English speakers who may have an easier time accepting a foreign idea. It clearly didn’t work so well bcs it took well over a year for my first response on here haha.

Meantek please allow me to address some of the issues you brought up.
We have always only ever put green peppercorns in our green peppercorn sauce. They are preserved, but we are always looking to find ways to improve our sauces. We are sorry you didnt enjoy it and appreciate the feedback.
As for the beef, every steak and lobster we serve is weighed and if you come again we’re always happy to show you that we have nothing to hide and are very proud of the quality of the products that we use. Great beef and live lobsters. Some restaurants would try and cut corners and cheat, but when our menu is only TWO items and the preparations are so simple there’s nothing to hide behind. Everything must be fresh, no unsold stuff sitting around and I can promise you we would never intentionally serve a smaller than advertised steak. That wouldn’t be a sustainable business model for very long. We prefer simple, well executed and transparent.
As for the running children, we generally leave the parenting to the parents unless things really get out of hand and other guests complain. If thats the case we will happily take steps to try and fix the situation. With that said, we’re not a fine dining restaurant. We are casual family friendly restaurant, and our policies regarding children are not what you’d find at Robuchon(no one under 12) or similar restaurants.
Our service is meant to also be casual and comfortable. We hope to not be judged by fine dining standards, but if you feel like you weren’t looked after properly, then we still failed and that’s definitely something we will continue to work hard to improve.
I hope this response can clarify a few things from our perspective. I known it doesn’t help you enjoy last years birthday dinner any more, but we’d love for you to give us another shot. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
All the best,
Long

Last week, a work colleague recommended I look at Le Blanc, because she described it as kid-friendly. I think she was talking about the unlimited french fries  My 5 year old’s birthday was imminent and we hadn’t made any particular dinner plans for the evening. Another plus was that it is located not far from where we live.

Overall, we had a great experience. The wife approved and I was happy - my 5 yo, however, was engrossed in our iPad, and since he registered no complaints, I will ring that up as a “thumbs up” for him, too.

We ordered a 10oz steak and a grilled lobster (I understood going in that this would be split in half), and on the side, we ordered the creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms. I started with the seasonal salad and she had the soup, and we capped the meal off with the chocolate chocolate chip cookie in the skillet ala mode.

It was all very satisfying. The meat was nicely done - tender and tasty. Seeing the uniform pink interior leads me to think it was prepared sous vide, which was awesome. I thought the 10oz cut was a little small for me, so now that I know I could have ordered the 20oz option, that small concern has been addressed. I ended up eating half of the lobster, and the menu is clear that you can add a half-lobster for NT$ 700. Having the 10oz steak + the half lobster (and sides) was very filling and quite satisfying. The lobster was nice, but I thought the container of drawn butter was too small. Nevertheless, I did not ask for more.

The creamed spinach was very nice. It was exactly how I hoped it would be. I wasn’t quite as thrilled with the mushrooms. I think the mushrooms were fine but I very obviously enjoyed everything else so much more. And the unlimited french fries were very nice, too. The lobster and the steak both came with large portions of fries, and we only ended up asking for more once. These were obviously made fresh, so took a little while - and the extra fries came in a small plate.

The salad was very good, and so was the soup. We used the popovers that came with the meal to sop it all up. And the cookie was a nice touch at the end. The popovers reminded me of the Yorkshire pudding, which is a comment I also read at Hungry Girl’s blog, which I read before the meal:

I thought the level of service and attention was good. We didn’t really have any issues getting someone to help us out, and besides we were busy enjoying the meal anyway. I am sure I would remember if we we felt neglected in any way.

I ducked into the restroom after we ordered - it is actually located in the basement of the small hotel next door, and you access it via a hidden door, which opens to the elevator of the hotel.

The restaurant was nearly full on a Thursday night. We were the only table with a child and my wife remarked that it was obviously a good date place. There isn’t a child menu, but my colleague probably figured the unlimited fries and the mac & cheese on the menu (we haven’t tried it yet) would make it family friendly. Our family will certainly be back.

I look forward to going back with friends, and with out of town visitors as well. The food was good and the concept of a simple menu of 2 item is very welcome. I recommend it and look forward to what others might think. Something tells me I will be visiting again soon

Are the fries Handcut or Frozen?

Ahhh Le Blanc is so good…Love that place been several times and taken friends. Im so glad they’re not Cheap with the Unlimited Sparkling Water and Fries.

My family always moan about turkey on Christmas Day.
This year we’re in Taipei over Christmas. Five of us went for lunch at Le Blanc. 3 steaks and 2 lobsters.
At any price, the food was first class. However, the value for money at Le Blanc is fantastic.
Also, stellar service from the young lady that hosted us.

When ever we’re in Taipei again, we’ll be back.

I just came here with and it was pretty good, don’t really have anything to complain about. Short distance from the MRT and good decor. I’m used to cutting my own steak rather than have it precut but they were still juicy so can’t complain. When booking you can select the occasion, we got a corner desk which was pretty quiet.

Sounds great! Worth the price and any nearby car park?

IMO the food at Le Blanc is good by Taiwan standards but I’d say it’s just decent by international standards. The service has always been good when I’ve gone though.

Was there car park near, looks very limited in that lane/ area.

There are a couple of small ones a few blocks away.
