Marriage registered in Taiwan recognised/ok for Spouse Visa in UK?

Hi all,

I think the subject of this post sums my question up pretty well but here is the full story:

My fiancé and I are planning our marriage at the moment and we are looking for some clarification surrounding the legal procedures…

Our plan is that we would like to register the marriage in Taipei (legal part to keep the family happy) and hold a celebration shortly after in Thailand (fun part with friends and more family). After the marriage we are looking to come back to the UK to settle (I am a British citizen and have lived here my whole life). To do this, we are planning to apply for the Spouse Visa.

My question is if we register the marriage in Taiwan, does the marriage certificate qualify or will we have problems obtaining the Spouse Visa?

I have read mixed comments about whether the marriage will be recognised by the UK so want to get a definitive answer.

Any advice/experience is most appreciated,

Shaun
