Minimum wage and tax threshhold 2017

Pending cabinet approval, the monthly Basic Wage (aka minimum wage) will rise to $21,009 in January, automatically raising the threshold for the higher non-resident tax rate of 18% (as opposed to the lower non-resident rate of 6%), which is 1.5 times the Basic Wage. There is some talk of changes to the tax rates next year but afaik nothing solid yet.

Also pending cabinet approval, the hourly Basic Wage will rise to $126 in October and $133 in January.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Chinese National Federation of Industries believes, “if anyone should be protesting, it should be us,” due to the terrible burden this wage increase will impose on employers. :sob:
