Other brands of electric scooters

Are there other brands of electric scooters available in Taiwan besides the ugly fat-seat gogoro?

There are quite a few. Most of them are made to suit the government’s classification of an “electric bicycle”, even though they look like a scooter. Their weight, without battery, cannot exceed a certain limit, and the speed is limited at about 40 km/h. These can be purchased without a license or ARC, because they have no plates (and in my experience can be parked basically anywhere with no consequences, bicycles are not ticketed!). They are a good option for foreigners with no ARC. For anyone going down this path I would recommend choosing a larger capacity battery option (the range on mine is 30 km, which sounds like a lot but in reality is not enough - there is also a 60 km range battery that can be purchased for my scooter).

I have a Linchn, they have a factory in Pingdong (maybe more, I’m not sure). Their website is awful, but you can look at their bikes on the site of this shop in Kaohsiung:

There are others that are similar, look for “電動車” in google maps for a store near you. They will often specialise in this kind of scooter and will have various brands and styles.

When looking, you’ll need to decide if you need a removable battery (unless you live somewhere you can plug it straight in, you’ll need to remove the battery to charge it). Battery swap stations for these kinds of scooters are pretty much nonexistent so you’ll be charging at home. If you need a removable battery make sure to state that when looking, so you’re only looking at scooters that have this feature and don’t waste time looking at the fixed battery options. The scooters with removable batteries are generally more expensive than the fixed type.

Is this an electric motorcycle?

I guess I found it: ’ Little monkey electric motorcycle Z6’

That’s what it says on the license plate.

In Taiwan you never know, faking as long as they can away with it
