Potato or Potatoe Depends on Where

Even chinese debates…

馬鈴薯(mǎlíngshǔ)or 土豆 (tǔdòu) .

I just found out that 土豆(potato in china)means 花生 (peanuts)in taiwan. So i guess you won’t want to order a peanut butter sandwich in taiwan using the wrong term.

It’s like pommes de terre and patates. (In french)

Never heard anyone call potatoes ‘土豆’. It doesn’t even make any (botanical) sense - if someone said the word to me I would assume (as per kitkatkuo) that they were talking about either peanuts or jicama (yam bean).
