Removing the Forumosafieds

I was hoping to use this transition to Discourse as the time to remove the Forumosafieds from the discussion website. But without the new classifieds site up, there was no point to just remove them.

I think there are too many forums – pardon me, I mean there are too many categories, and many of these are nearly empty ones in the Forumosafieds.

I like the idea of using Tags instead of creating hyper-specific forums. Could we merge the Forumosafieds into a single forum and tag topics with keywords that can only be used as tags in the Forumosafied Forum?

Tags could be:
Hiring-Teachers
For-Rent
Moving-Sale

Then we make these tags accessible in a footer sitemap or on a Forumosafieds.com blog or something

  • Merge all the Forumosafieds into a single forum and use tags instead of sub-categories
  • Remove the Forumosafieds altogether and start a separate classifieds website
  • Keep things the way they are
  • Something else (I will post another idea below)

It seems that you can make forum-specific tags, but they’re always optional. It seems likely that Forumosafieds posters may neglect to enter them.
