Sale alert thread - TPE

I thought it might be a nice idea to have a thread to alert people to good sales in Taipei so we can help each other save some money. For example, at Jason’s the olive oil (Solea brand) potato chips are very pricy at around $120 per 5 oz (142 gm) bag. But some were on sale this evening for only $69 (cracked pepper and salt flavor, and garlic flavor included). I’ll try to check tomorrow to see when it ends. EDIT – ends Oct. 4. They are very good – thick n crunchy, and low in oil so they’re healthier.

Let us know what goodies you find!

great thread idea. 120 for a lousy bag of chips? ?" :unamused:

The living mall is having a HUGE sale - every store is having some kind of special offer (or at leat the ones I went to - Tommy Hillfiger, 50% off, Guess, Levis, Polo, etc…) and if you spend more than $5000 at any store, you can go to the 9th floor with your receipt and get an instant $500 cash back!

Haha commercialism at its best. Spend a lot, get some back

It works, everywhere around the world !! I admit its tempting too!! If you spent over 3000nt at a store you ARE going to find SOMETHING to buy to get you over the 5000 nt hump !! And you may have ended up spending for some things that really are not needed to save that 500.

I believe that the Breeze Supermarket (located on B2) is having a sale on some of their items. I think it started on Sep. 28 and it will continue on until Oct. 16. I believe that there is a 5 percent (or perhaps 10 percent) discount on many items in the supermarket. However, some items (rice, cooking oil, and alcohol) are excluded from the sale.

I’ll check for more exact information the next time I go to the Breeze center.

Great idea for a thread, btw.

Where’s that?

Where’s that?
It’s that mall shaped like a giant ball.
At the east end of Civic Blvd.

Oh, is that what 京華城 Jing1hua2 Cheng2 is called in English? Damn, I oughta hang around with English speakers more.

I was told it was called the Living Mall because it was supposed to be “alive”, open 24 hours a day.
That obviously didn’t work out too well.
But they tried.

Aka Core Pacific City or CPCity. I think they use the former on the free shuttle busses.

Yep, Breeze Center has a sale due to it’s 6th anniversary. Some items in the supermarket are discounted at 10% though I couldn’t figure out what products are discounted and which are not (the sushi I bought was, the bottled drinks not).

I got a couple of nice things at City Super on Friday – some really nice mustard relish, some really good roast pepper relish and some couscous. All around NT$80 a pop, which is pretty much half price. Approaching their sell-by dates.

Here’s a pretty good deal. Seagate FreeAgent 250 GB external hard drives. Usually NT$4,000, now NT$2,500 at Shinkong. Just picked up some storage. Just unboxed it, got it running, and am now moving stuff over.

Damn, it’s quiet. I was holding out of a little Mini-specific unit, but there’s nothing wrong with thsi.

Hey, let’s keep this thread going!

Anytime you see a big sale on something you thing others might be interested in, please post the details here (especially the ending date).

Right now, RTMart has lots of good chocolates on sale (just inside the entrance in the store I went to, in Neihu) including Ritter, Lindt, Villars, Sarotti (which I recommend), Dove % and Terravita on sale thru Dec. 24 or so.)

Sarotti’s No.1 Ecuador 72%, Mexiko (sic) with chili and the one with cocoa nibs (crunchy) are all good.

OK. Here are some items I saw on sale at Jason’s 101 last Friday. I believe that they will be on sale until December 25 (or so).

Tall cans (500 ml) of Murphy’s stout–NT$69. They used to be NT$85 at 7-Eleven, and I’ve seen 'em for NT$90 elsewhere.

Boulder Canyon potato chips. Normal price–NT$120, but for a limited time (til the twenty-fifth?) they are two for one. So, each one is NT$60, if you buy two. I’ve had the malt vinegar ones, and they are good.

Pete’s Pretzels on sale for NT$85 (don’t know what the normal price is). Worth giving a try, especially the habanero and sour cream ones.

And I seem to remember a poster in the beer alert thread asking about VB. The small bottles (“stubbies”?) are on sale for NT$39 per bottle.

Dragonbones, thanks for the heads-up about the chocolate sale at RT Mart. I’ll be on the lookout for the Sarotti.

Happy (sale) shopping!

I’m not 100% sure this is still on, but last week I was in Jasons and Boag’s beer (Tasmainian, lager, really rather good) was on sale in a box of five with a free glass, the week before it worked out at NT65 a bottle (NT365) (standard price, but free glass) but last week it was, I think, 299 a box (five beers plus free glass). Perhaps someone going into Jason’s could confirm if it’s still on?

BTW has anyone seen any good deals on Champagne recently? I noticed that Jason’s has knocked 100NT off their Veuve Cliquot( the none fancy keep cool wrap one.

RTMart has Moet & Chandon on for 1259.
For 1288 you can get a bottle and two etched champagne flutes in a boxed set.

Veggies are at their lowest price right now. Remember the tomatoes at 90nts? Well, now they are at 30 nts per kilo. Remember cabbage at 45 and more? Now it’s 20 or less.

Next stop: food forum to exchange recipies for preserving veggies.

Though, this is not good news for everyone:

RTMart has knocked down the Moet even cheaper now to 999.

thats cheap. In the bay area it runs around 31 to 35 dollars/bottle plus sales tax of 7.25 to 8.75 pct

i usually go for the Chandon (made by same company but in napa) for half that

got some chandon in Taipei before round 500nt/bottle

Mc Donald started with the 79 nt meal.

KFC followed with buy two, one is half price.

Now 7-11 and other convenience stores go for the 50 nt lunch box.
Family Mart convenience stores, for instance, will launch three new kinds of meal boxes at a unit price of NT$50, lower than the previous price of NT$60.

Lin Chui-chuan, public relations manager of Family Mart, said that Family Mart will launch the “one NT$50 coin can settle one meal for you” campaign to attract patronage from more office workers starting March 10.

The Hi-Life convenience store chain is offering a discount of NT$10 to NT$20 on combined purchases of boxes and beverages, while the Uni-President convenience store chain has yet to offer low-price fresh food boxes.

Meanwhile, Formosa Chang, a famous chain of fast food restaurants offering “minced fatty pork over rice,” and Mercuries beef noodle chain stores (San Shang Chiao Fu) are also moving to offer meals at prices lower than usual.
