Taipei Summer Universiade 2017 :facebook:

People from public sectors who have/expect to have phat stacks of cash as part of their retirement plan, and are against the pension reform because they’d be less rich.

Long story short. Others can get more detailed, but the jist of it is, old retired government worker’s lao bao budgets were cut.

Nobody likes them because (most of them) did relatively nothing at work, can’t get fired and have made a ton of money in the process.

So literally nothing to do with the international political theatre. I thought maybe it was like about being Chinese taipei competing again. That I can understand, but like this is the wrong event for that.

Other than the fact that President Tsai was there…had absolutely nothing to do with anything.

They gained more haters than supporters. Not only were the people attending the ceremony were pissed, but people watching at home were too.

As I said:

  1. Not the right place
  2. Not much to be achieved, as the law has already passed
  3. Their terrorist tactics are scary and revolting. What if it had not been smoke bombs but actual bombs? Nerve agents? It could have been a lot worse and for what?

I wasn’t the only one confused by the change of music when TPE came into the stadium, right? My exact reaction, “Oh man, what a great song…wait what language is this?”

I wasn’t sure if the DJ was remixing two songs into one since I was hearing both Chinese and Aboriginal languages.

Security at Furen Uni for the footy yesterday was way over the top. Be prepared for big queues to get into many venues. Most of the crowd for the Taiwan vs USA game last night was still queuing for security inspection 20 minutes into the match.

I’m pleasantly surprised by the amount of spectators, I’ve been to several different venues and they are all basically full.

yeah, great atmos last night at Furen, lots of organized cheering by the boys in blue (specialist cheering squads) with the added bonus that they only used the terms Taiwan and Formosa in their chants. Stadium went off when the girls scored in injury time.

There were many Taiwanese flags yesyerdY in nangang for the gymnastics team. Today I’m waiting for our girls

Despite the police not doing much for the protestors, security getting into the opening ceremony was top notch.

Gf brought a very very small bag, with very little items and the officer at the check point asked her to remove everything to check. She kind of had a “wait…seriously?” kind of look, but was happy to comply. Gf said she’s been going to concerts and events like these all her life, but security was never this tight.

As she was putting things back into her bag, we realized that everyone was getting the same treatment. Two thumbs up.

“Too much security” is better than “Ops”, so no problem for me, even if I wish I didn’t have to go through it each time I change floor in nangang -_-

Sorry for double post, but I took before and after pics of the stadium…

IMAG0297!

Pretty amazing atmosphere once the athletes came in. I really couldn’t believe I was in Taiwan.

I missed it what happened? Protests? Laws? Huh?

Thanks…but…my 中文 is no where near proficient enough to understand this.

I can order food, but if gets to asking a lot of questions, about all I am able to throw back is something like 我友一條l綠色魚 and I probably screwed that up.
