Taiwan rated by Freedom House as 2nd freest in Asia, China dropped more

The narrative doesn’t really make a lot of sense. But the point is understood.

Setting up a new office in Taiwan.

idk… don’t think Freedom House is nearly truly what it always claims to be about (simple freedom). There’s more to this than outsiders know. Per th article below, it’s quite the cesspot of neocons, who are sheetheads and have ruined the U.S. in the last few decades.
Taiwan’s #2 in democracy in Asia and FH wants to use the island as what?
Seems like the # of spooks running around the island will soon rise.

The author of the piece below:

Robert Parry was an American investigative journalist. He was best known for his role in covering the Iran-Contra affair for the Associated Press (AP) and Newsweek, including breaking the Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare (CIA manual provided to the Nicaraguan contras) and the CIA involvement in Contra cocaine trafficking in the U.S. scandal in 1985.

Over the ensuing three decades, Freedom House has become almost an NED subsidiary, often joining NED in holding policy conferences and issuing position papers, both organizations pushing primarily a neoconservative agenda, challenging countries deemed insufficiently “free,” including Syria, Ukraine (in 2014) and Russia.

Indeed, NED and Freedom House often work as a kind of tag-team with NED financing “non-governmental organizations” inside targeted countries and Freedom House berating those governments if they crack down on U.S.-funded NGOs.

Apparently we are still number two, behind Japan. Here’s the summary:

The report credited Taiwan as having fortified its freedom since the 1990s, after ending martial law in 1987 and holding its first direct presidential election in 1996, followed by “full multiparty legislative elections.”

Although the report went on to praise Taiwan for having a well rounded democracy that safeguards the liberties of its citizens, it also raised concerns such as exploitation of migrant workers and China’s attempts to infiltrate Taiwan’s democracy and media.

In other words, still room for improvement.

It’s always ranked 2nd in Asia. Has been the case for a few decades.
