Taiwanese tourist loses citizenship after getting quickie Chinese passport

“Currently, when Taiwanese want to travel Russia, they need to pay more than NT$3,000 (US$99) in fees, obtain an invitation letter from a hotel, and pay another NT$2,000 to NT$3,000 in courier fees. However, those who hold a Chinese passport enjoy visa-free access to Russia.”

That is par for the course for a lot of the rest of the world. US citizens have to fill out a lengthy visa application. It has been reported that they (Russians) ask for family financial and employment history.

I suspect many Taiwanese may already hold PRC passports, without telling anyone. According to news reports, the tourist involved posted photos on Facebook; and someone reported them…! Doh! Currently, there is no means for the two governments to share such information; and the one in Beijing is quite happy to issue passports for locals here for obvious reasons…

they only give a passport if you have household registration, and that is tightly controlled. if you have no household registration they give you a travel document. They dont give ‘temporary passports’ This sounds like fake news.
