Tanker truck fire causes amazing highway collapse in Calif

check it out
A fiery pre-dawn tanker truck accident caused the collapse of heavily used freeway overpass near downtown Oakland early this morning, sending hundreds of feet of concrete and steel roadway crashing down onto a highway below, and probably complicating the lives of thousands of Bay Area commuters for months to come.

The driver of the tanker truck, which was carrying 8,600 gallons of unleaded gasoline, was injured, but no other injuries were immediately reported.

The crash, which occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m. Pacific time, sent flames soaring hundreds of feet into the air, according to witnesses. The overpass carrying eastbound lanes of Interstate 580 overhead quickly buckled, causing it to collapse onto part of Interstate 80 below.

The accident occurred near the approach to the Bay Bridge, which connects San Francisco with Oakland, Berkeley and other cities on the east side . . .
Of course it brings to mind the highway overpass that was knocked out very close to this same location by the loma prieta earthquake in 1989, but it’s interesting that a large fire can cause the same damage (as we saw also on 9/11).

So you’re saying it was a conspiracy?? :ohreally:

It was the dancing Israelis!!

The same damage eh? :noway:

But it does go to show that a road can be brought down by tons of high octain fuel

So you’re saying it was a conspiracy?? :ohreally:
Heh, heh. Funny you should say that. Were you aware that President Bush’s nephew, Cornelius H. Bush, serves as Executive Director of Reconstruction Projects for the CalTrans (the highway authority in Calif) Northern Cal District and holds a key vote in how such rebuilding efforts are to be carried out; his office is required to publicly disclose routine highway inspection reports on a quarterly basis, but have failed to do so for the past 7 quarters, without recourse, with regard to the roadway in question; he also serves as Chairman of the Board of RoadWorks, a major public works construction company in the Western US, for which he has received over a half million shares of stock as compensation in the past three years; sources have reported he was seen personally examining the overpass structures in that very location just one week before the incident; and the driver of the tanker truck, whose daughter was a classmate of Mary Cheney at Colorado College, was previously employed by RoadWorks, in their Houston office where Cornelius Bush worked at the time.

Coincidence?

Never has bullshit tasted so sweet!
:bravo:
I nominate this for a classic post! :notworthy:

The East Bay commute is going to be a frigging nightmare…Ouch.

That’s why God invented BART.

I am one of those directly affected by this .

Thank goodness gas is cheap these days.

there are two sections. the one on top is destroyed and will take months to fabricate and install. But the bottom section has been tested and found to be sound and only needed relatively minor work. The Governator has just announced that it is to reopen TONITE in the bay area. The bottom section that is.

Gas is not cheap by california standards. But certainly cheaper then in EUROPE (how much is it in europe now?). We pay around 3.50 per gallon for unleaded 87 octane (Regular) nowadays.

HOw much is gas in Taiwan now?

I think it was something like 21nt /liter last I was there for premium. Our gas is Regular (87), Midgrade (89) and premium (91 octane). Premium is just under 4 bucks a gallon around here.
