Tax percentage from paycheck question

Hey everyone,

Quick question regarding taxes. I’m just wondering how much is taken out every month’s paycheck. Is it 5%? Or is it 18% and then I’m given the difference back come tax filing time?

This pertains to this year (2018) in which I will be in Taiwan for longer than the 183 days.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Short answer: for the first six months of any calendar year, your employer can choose to sting you with the non-resident rate (18%).

Long answer: we have many threads on this.

Thank you. Do you know if that 18% sting is still refundable though come tax filing time?

And I will do some more digging. Thanks!

Yes, you can get a refund of the overpayment if you turn out to be present for 183 days in the year.
