"台灣是中國的一部份" translates Google from English "Taiwan is not a part of China"

The only way to get around it is to write “not” in capitals, which is what I would suggest my Taiwanese friends to always do in the future.

As I understand it, modern translation software sometimes picks up on entire phrases or sentences and translates to whatever equivalent meaning it’s seen in published “rosetta stone” multilingual documents.

Apparently, official documents (such as UN publications) are often used for “training”, so it’s quite possible the software has come across a lot of Chinese doublespeak about Taiwan, and has simply incorporated this black-is-white thinking into its operation. It’s only a dumb machine, so it can’t know that Chinese politicans have such tiny willies that it affects their understanding of reality.
