Typhoons 2016

Lucky you. If I had a laptop, I’d be home already.

Anyone can rent me a laptop? For the holidays. Swear I will use it only for serious, official purposes.

Like…daily cat pictures?

Or translating for the Spanish blog the videos of the latest Takeshi Kaneshiro interview…

No, seriously, if I don’t finish my work today, I’m gonna need a rented laptop…

Uhhh, it’s REALLY bowing out there, like HUGE gusts blowing waves of heavy rain. Like Forrest Gump horizontal rain.
Are we going to get a Go Home Early??

Same here in Zhong Shan, Taipei.

It was light gray clouds about 20 mins ago!

Why oh why did it have to come during lunch hour.

Will Taipei declares no work? It seems very dangerous outside.

Here in Yilan it’s like this:

Much more rain than Nepartak, around home we’ll probably get some flooding. Luckily having a balcony facing the West during typhoons is really cool, it stays mostly dry and we can keep it open to let some air flow. I’m glad I moved most of the plants inside though.

South of Taipei here in Yingge, and it is crazy outside! Gusts and heavy downpour, very unsafe outside. If anyone knows info on afternoon cancellation please post on here.

Some areas of Yilan have been shut down for the afternoon, mostly schools in the southern area or by the mountains.

I was about to head out to the supermarket to get some goodies…came face to face with that wall of water, did a 180…Nope, nope, no.

Seems calmish now…very tempting, so better stay indoors!

This government outfit puts out the word on whether, where, and when there are work or school closures for natural disasters:

I’m a bit surprised by just how strong this is in Danshui today.

Is there much word about how things are down south?

Ping-Deng Pueblo & Li-Shan Pueblo of Heping Dist

That’s an interesting translation.

Well crap, man, it’s dead friggin scary out there, I can’t believe they ain’t sending us home.

How much you want to bet the majority of the staff there buggered off early for the hols (pretty much like my office here) and they got nobody left to push the button?

How south are we talking about @lostinasia ? I mean…you’re pretty far north

I got lucky and could stick a 45 minute quick lunch at Sushi Express on Linsen. I think the heaviest rain was around noon. A bit calmer now, but still some Forrest Gump rain happening out there.

South of Taipei here in Yingge

This made me laugh. On a related noted, I remember hearing some people in Taipei refer to Taoyuan as “the south”!

Guy

Chungli is the deep south, as in you go down there you gone and you gonna stay gone

This is looking more and more like that clustercuss many years ago when a typhoon hit at 5 p.m. on a Friday and it was chaos.

Just been out for a drive and look-see. Monster waves, but no real drama here. Wanted to check on the site for the latest mega-resort development to be green-lighted by the Taidong Council and sure enough, it was the only place that was land-sliding, They really know know how to pick their sites!

Meanwhile, grave concerns for the deep south. Wrecking-ball winds and some mountain places with huge rain. There was also a Philippine island with 3000 people that Meranti went right over the top of. In a village situation, i don’t know how you would survive that kind of wind.

There are some really scary videos coming up my news feed, from Pingtung and Kaohsiung. Check out the containers at the harbor being thrown around like Legos.
