Unofficial Forumosa Cycling Club 2017 (Taipei/New Taipei)

Correct me if I’m wrong and sorry to her majesty for my ignorance, imperial century = 100 miles = 160km?

A moderate 160km loop without overlapping roads is (of course this depends on where you live), but starting on the riverside near Grand Hotel, go north towards Danshui. When you get to Hong Shu Lin MRT, you need to ride on the road and take the coastal road (No.2) all the way to Fulong, past Keelung.

The north coast road will start with some bunny hills and end up being 100% flat from the north east corner all the way to the Keelung city border. Once you get through noisy Keelung, the coastal road goes back to bunny hills.

After having a boxed lunch at Fulong, your ride back west on the 2 towards the 106 will be a long long long 0.5-1% gradient hill leading to a long long 3-4% gradient bridge to a tunnel.

The way back to Taipei on the 106 is also bunny hills.

Take a look at this organized event that happens every year. It’s called “The Greater Taipei Loop”. You can play around with the start and end locations, but this is about as flat as you can get without overlapping any roads.

Sounds great ranlee, but the my wedding anniversary is on Friday and my wife and I will probably celebrate on Saturday. We’re also considering a dinner on Friday with lots of drinks (for me anyway). I better not take any chances with plans on Saturday.

I may not even get home from Friday night yet! Have Aussies in town, need to entertain! Will try though!

Look for me on Saturday on top of Wuzhishan. I’ll be going up Xiwan with a small group (me and three others). We’re meeting at Xike Station at 7 am then heading straight up. We’ll head to Star City Coffee to look as well. We’ll be going back down Xiwan to swim in that river we discussed before.

See you there @marasan

If we’re not at Star City, look for us across the street at Lavazza. Sometimes Star City gets lazy and doesn’t open until 830-9AM.
