How do other taiwanese stop their kids from opening doors?
I am in kiaosiung
Thanks in advance!

I haven’t seen door knobs covers, but it’s very easy to find some door latches. It can work on fridges and cabinets, maybe it can help you with what you need.

Costco do cheap child gates and Ikea do a range of child proof latches.

A couple years back, B&Q had the style that covers a doorknob with a white plastic clam shell, and you have to press firmly on two buttons on it to turn the knob. Later I found the same style there but lacking the former version’s rubberized surface in the interior of the buttons, so they slipped too much, making it hard for even an adult to turn the knob. I used hot melt glue to add a piece of gripping rubber mat and then they worked fine. I don’t know what they carry now.

Great, I’m looking for that. Is b and q a store? I’ve never seen it.

I have seen those door latches online. Does anyone know if they would hold up against kids trying to open up the door?

Yeah, 特力屋 in Chinese, formerly affiliated with B&Q. There’s one between Carrefour and Costco in Neihu, for instance. https://www.i-house.com.tw/pages/store

I would not trust the plastic ones that attach with double-stick tape. The doorknob covers work well against a 2- to 3-y.o. but a child of 6 can open them.

I am surprised these were so difficult to find
