What Are You Watching (TV Series, etc.)? :facebook:

buona fortuna

grazie mille!

With the weather getting a little better in the past few days, I’m trying to utilize my lunch breaks to watch Netflix, so I can be out and about in the evening. It’s tough to make a dent into 40-50 minute episodes when I only have a 60 min lunch, they are such a commitment!

I think the first couple of episodes of Daredevil escalated reaally fast. I wasn’t expecting to actually get to see “he-who-must-not-be-named” so quickly.

Oh yeah … his introduction is fun. Fisk (Daredevil) and Kilgrave (Jessica Jones) are both really good villains. Perhaps even better than Loki, in a franchise that’s short on enjoyable antagonists.

I do enjoy how sophisticated the villain is. Not straight forward, like I want to take over the world and no one is going to stop me.

I can’t say Fisk is better than Loki, but I guess the rest of the season will tell.

If you have local cable, I recommend you to watch Supernatural Season 11’s episode called Baby. They played it yesterday, which means rerun today and Sunday afternoon. Or DL it. For those interested in cinema, from a technical point of view, it is really interesting. There is a quirky twist in telling the story, that may take some time to process, but the Aha is quite a reward.

I just started Daredevil season 2. I won’t lie, after 6 episodes, I liked season 1 much better.

Not to say season 2 is bad, but there’s just so much hype going on and I know that it won’t get resolved this season.

There was mention (only by name) of Jessica Jones in Daredevil season 2. It’s quite interesting that they could be in the same universe. I look forward to watching that series after I’m done with Daredevil season 2.

When in sad mode I watch any scary movies well to up lift my mood.

@lostinasia @ranlee Honest opinion: DD season 1 and JJ season 1 are almost equally good. Next down comes DD season 2. Then luke cage season 1 (which, full disclosure - I haven’t even finished, but dang it got sorta tiring).

Like Bond films, superhero content is often only as good as its villain, so yeah, the wilson fisk villany charm worked for a season, wore off along with the novelty in season 2. kilgrave was probably the best and most potent villain in all of the marvel netflix shows. luke cage has so much charm and likability that he could hold interest for nearly 5 episodes, but then it just felt stale and stagnant, and that made it easy to just stop caring.

Havent finished luke cage but already wondering about iron fist and really looking forward to the defenders.

P.s. Really wish we could have seen more flying in JJ, one of the casualties in the (apparently) lack of budget. Could have distinguished itself even greater from DD, LC, and (I imagine) IF.

I recently binged the first season of “The Expanse” on Netflix. It’s not bad - it’s the best new semi-hard sci-fi I can recall seeing since “Battlestar Galactica”, but it’s certainly not at the level of BSG Season 1. I gather Season 2 will start in a month or two, but I have no idea when or if it’ll show up on Netflix here.

I also went through a lot of “Rick and Morty”. It consistently made me laugh a couple of times per episode. Amorally dumb. Rick Harmon, creator of “Community”, is one of the main writers; I imagine “Rick and Morty” is the show that darkest-timeline Troy and Abed would write.

I liked the puzzle-box side of “Westworld” a lot; the character side, not so much. Take Season One of “Lost”, add sensible resolution of most of the mysteries, and subtract interesting characters - if that sounds appealing to you, then you’ll enjoy “Westworld.” One very good thing about the first season of “Westworld” is that it stands fairly well on its own, whereas with “The Expanse”, it’s more like, “Well, this could go somewhere good, even if it’s not there yet.”

All existing Star Trek series are now on Netflix Taiwan. If you like Trek in general and haven’t yet seen “Deep Space Nine”, I highly recommend it, but just watch in the background until Season 3 or so (there are probably websites that can tell you which episodes to skip). Now at least I can watch “Voyager”, which is something I want to do. I’ll probably watch “Enterprise” one day too just because I’m a completist, but I haven’t heard much good about it.

Not all. They are still missing the animated series, last time I checked. :sob:

Voyager is really suitable for binge watching over the New Year.

Oh. Oops. Apologies for forgetting that crucial part of the canon. It’s supposed to be almost as good as the Star Wars Christmas Special, isn’t it?

I vaguely, vaguely remember an episode when they turned into babies. That is probably one of my earliest TV memories. (I was watching Star Trek very young, but I’ve seen TOS episodes so many times that I can’t really place a memory of that series to any age.)

I love it for the cat ensign.

Moreover, I have the book adaptations by Alan Dean Foster. He adds an origin story for each character, and that part is really cool.

If the cat ensign has control of the helm and makes the ship chase every darn laser beam it sees, then I’m all for it.

Icon, what sort of pull do you have?! The animated series was not there yesterday. Now it is!

I couldn’t even get thru the entire list. I am drooling. Not one, but two Margaret Atwood’s adaptations? Yes there will be A Handmaid’s Tale as well as Alias Grace (as to yet unheard of, but plan to make it my next read). David Simon gonna wire porn industry In The Deuce and so much more. Enjoy the link toobophiles.

Trying very hard to not watch Sherlock S4. Not until exams are over.

Better keep off the net, too. Spoilers everywhere!

That said, after such along wait, the series feels… anticlimatic.

As someone who doesn’t have cable and mainly watches TV via Netflix or purchasing shows on iTunes … from the reviews I’ve read, I’m in no hurry to get around to “Sherlock” this time.

I grew up on Star Trek. My wife (Taiwanese) has never seen it. Now that it’s all on Netflix, any ideas for episodes to introduce her to the show with? Or perhaps just forget it? I’ve watched a couple of the Next Generation episodes and it’s aged a lot more poorly than I’d expected.
