Women's Forum - Are private forums necessary?

That’s my generation, but younger minds have different tastes. :grandpa:

You know me. I am a mustache/beard woman.

Damn, I forgot to shave this morning.

Well, the thing is that forums are suitable for the exchange of information. For example, yes, we know some of you guys are married and interested in knowing which is the best place in town to give birth, who are the most recommended doctors, etc. But the puerile comments from others that do not help or advance the topic do turn people away and stop the conversation.

Puerile comments aren’t exclusive to one gender so maybe that would be a better qualification for membership than gender alone, particularly in an age in which we’re trying to throw off the shackles of the past rather than just replace them with new ones.

I agree! But you know why that statement is funny, right? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

You’re too modest.

@Icon What about… Rock Hudson?

Haha.

@Icon Likes ‘em w facial hair, so… Star-lord perhaps tickles her fancy .

I’d be more interested in hearing your thoughts on why Forumosa can’t seem to grasp that discriminating on the basis of gender is unethical and perpetuates the mindset that it’s okay.

Unfortunately, when the exclusive forum was opened, it was because the level of discourse had fallen to very low levels. At that time, a threshold was made. Since then, the number of not mature comments in the section where certain delicate isues were discussed also vanished. It may be that, by sheer numbers, as female foreigners participating were less, the number of brain farst also diminished. I guess if there were also less guys, a little bit more discrimination would be in effect?

The creation of private, invitation only forums should be open to everyone equally. Segregation by gender or any other classification is a throwback to the 20th century.

I’m doing the old “replying to the OP, not reading through the thread” routine, since this sucker is over 300 posts. So this has probably been done to death. But I think online forum culture in generally is more inclusive and less men-centric (some would say misogynistic) than it was a decade and a half ago in 2003. Perhaps at the time a female forum was needed as a “safe space”, but I don’t see a lot of need for it now. I don’t really come across a lot of misogyny on forumosa. The occasional woman-hating dickhead exists, but there’s not an epidemic of them.

Well, there is not a lot of women anymore here, and there are still afew I know do not reveal their gender.

I’m totally in favor of a Women’s Forum. Sounds like a great place to meet chicks.

Hey, Ike! Sounds like there’s a double agent on the loose… :female_detective:

Don’t worry. I’m sure @IbisWtf will be along shortly to assure you that this anti-gender-neutrality policy is exactly how anti-socialism is supposed to work. :rainbow:

And yet another Strawman was destroyed! Way to go, buddy!

You do know there’s private forums just for mods, and other forums just for regulars, right? Oh, the horrid trampling of my civil rights! I’ve got the vapors! Someone get the fainting couch!
