Work Permit before or after arrival?

Hi from the UK!

I have a job lined up and would like some up-to-date advice.

My future employer in Taiwan is asking me to come before I receive my work permit. Does this sound right to you? I have read in other places that employers apply for it before you leave your home country. Leaving the ARC until I arrive.

What would you say is the wise choice?

Thanks,

Ben

Mine had it ready before I arrived. Sounds like your employer might want to make sure you show up before actually spending the money on the permit.

Sure, I can probably see that being the case. What would you suggest wait it out for here or take a leap of faith? I’m just not sure how common this is.

Cheers!

Working before the permit has been issued is illegal for both parties. Showing up to meet your future employer is legal.

Is your job English teacher or other type of job?

What yyy mentioned is true. You shouldn’t work without a work permit. Maybe you should ask your employer when they will apply for it.
