Zain Dean conviction--fatal hit & run case PART IV

Apparently the bail was US$1.5 million:
A warrant with a $1.5 million bail has been issued for his arrest.
–“Sex offender fails to appear for trial,” The Seattle Times, July 7, 2006

http://old.seattletimes.com/html/eastsidenews/2003110368_glance07e.html

I haven’t been able to find information on a reward offer in that amount, either. I’m not saying that such a reward offer doesn’t exist; I’m just saying that I haven’t found any information about it.

I wonder if this is what is meant by a warrant with bail:
Warrant with bail set
If bail has been set on the warrant, the suspect has a right to appear before a judge in
the county of arrest for the limited purpose of posting bail or seeking a bail reduction.
–Alameda County [California] District Attorney’s Website for Law Enforcement Officers and Prosecutors

Here’s a snippet of Washington State law about warrants and bail:
. . . . any officer making an arrest under this section shall, if the person arrested wishes to deposit bail, take such person directly and without delay before a judge or before an officer authorized to take the recognizance and justify and approve the bail, including the deposit of a sum of money equal to bail. Bail shall be the amount fixed by the warrant.
–Washington Revised Code Title 10. Criminal Procedure § 10.31.030

well very confused now - but hey thanks

It’s not for Dean, it’s for another dude.

On the Taiwanease board, a police e-mail was posted that said this about someone (not about Zain Dean):

https://taiwanease.com/en/forums/post116638.html#p116638

As far as I can tell, the “$1,500,000 warrant” in the police e-mail quoted above is the same thing as the “warrant with a $1.5 million bail” in the newspaper report quoted below:

http://old.seattletimes.com/html/eastsidenews/2003110368_glance07e.html

On the Taiwanease board, someone apparently took the “$1,500,000 warrant” in the police report to mean this:

A bounty is money someone gets paid for catching someone.

Bounty (reward) - Wikipedia

Bail is money someone has to pay to be set free.

Bail - Wikipedia

I could be wrong about this, but getting paid money and having to pay money don’t sound like the same thing to me.

ok thanks -
time to do my homework
:bowing:

My bad – I got the two terms mixed up. :poop:

No problem! In retrospect, I probably should have left your name out of it. And originally I also interpreted that figure as a bounty. In fact, I’m still not a hundred percent sure that my new interpretation is right.

And besides, I make mistakes so often that I sometimes think that my life has been mostly mistakes.

Did you ever make two mistakes and find you were back where you started?
Three you might be worse off again and Four you could be better than ever!
If you weren’t out there making mistakes you’d be making the biggest mistake of dying before your time was up.

Keep making mistakes

The latest on the Dean case. Will he be returned to Taiwan?

Wowsers.
Watch the whole video, it’s pretty surreal.
Certainly, that particular court appears to have had it with ZD’s faffing about and has no problem shooting his €2 ass back here right smart like.

Now listen, I ain’t bullshitting back here.
A prominent Flob alumni wrote me a couple months ago that he actually passed ZD on the street in Edinburgh.
I shit thee not.

I dont think hell be able to get fried Mars bars, Haggis or a fine Scotch in a Taiwan cell. Better get used to rice, shredded pork and making joss sticks. I still hate to see the Scots play by international rules when Taiwan does not in so many instances.

If I’m being honest, save for the scotch, the Taiwanese prison fare sounds better than the regular Scottish cuisine.

This is the case that never ends,
It just goes round and round again,

What a terrible waste of resources. He could have been out years ago.

It made news. What’s a “drink-driver”?
http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/our-region/edinburgh/drink-driver-who-fled-taiwan-for-capital-faces-fresh-extradition-bid-1-4488829

Apparently, in some dialects of English, they say “drink driving” instead of “drunk driving”.

Very Northern dialects :joy:

I am merely wondering, what are the chances of actually seeing him here?

At this point due to all the time locked up over there, does it make any sense to send him back to restart the clock?

They don’t intend to restart the clock. They want him to do the remaining 13 months in Taiwan. He spent almost three years in detention in Scotland.

I wonder what is more comfortable. Scottish or Taiwan prison?
