1 illegal Year In Taiwan. How to solve it?

Can anyone tell me if there will be any legal (prison related) problems I could have when I leave the country in about 4 months? After those 4 months my visa will show that I overstayed 1 year. It has been 2 months since my last extension. A series of unfortunate events (not the movie) complicated stay in Taiwan. It looks like everybody has a different comment for the topic but, none seems to give me an straight answer.

What I want is simply: pay the fees (still 10k?), and leave with no problems.

::::My Police Record is clean::::

Thank you very much.

You better go to the FAP and solve the matter, you get a big fat stamp in your passport … no returning to Taiwan for x years … a fine (10,000 NT$) and get deported … when they catch you on a routine control they’ll put you in the can … foreigners holding center in Sanxia …

Do you see the irony in this?

Anyway, dont wanna bust your balls. There are many threads about this kind of thing; do a search.

However, overstaying for a YEAR!!?? ok, rant over. I don’t rant much and I’m not good at it, so I imagine that didn’t hurt too much, but it might prepare you for the bodyslams that others will give you.

good luck.

take a fishing boat to the Philippines…

We need to start a lottery on what day of the week the next “I can’t read the rules - What will happen to me?” post will appear.

Once you have been deported from any country you may well have trouble getting into others. Seriously a year! I cannot imagine anything THAT complicated. Good luck.

Make that … was clean … your basically a criminal on the run now …

After you leave you probably want to ‘lose’ your passport. I had a freind who got deported from the UK (american) and although it was sorted out and she was let back in she took forever to get through customs when travelling because customs officials don’t take kindly to a deported stamp…I daresay it might show up on computor checks- but at least you can try to minimise the hassle. Of course it also means that if your country has gone biometric you will have to get one of those horrible things…

If you are caught, you get banned for 5 years. If you turn yourself in, you are banned for 1 year. Either way you pay the 10,000NT fine. That’s how things were “last I checked.” The only way I could see things changing since last checking is that they might now ban you for 5 years no matter what. Worry not about prison. They want you out, not in.

If it makes you feel any better I once met a dude that had overstayed for 20+ years .

As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be an illegal immigrant. Seeing as there are so many of them back home in the good old USA I thought I’d return the favor somehwere else.

Without casting shadows on what has happened, I suggest you just “come clean”
Now that the immigration department is undergoing change, go to see
Christine Tsai. You will have some shit to go through and it may cost you some money. Ulltimately, you will be directed to the airport if you don’t make the right moves.
I have found her to be highly proficient, not only in English but proficient in helping us get through the hoops. She is at:
8F., No 21, Sec 1, DiHua St…, Da-Tong District, Taipei City
10343 Taiwan, R.O.C.
Tel: (02)-2550-2151 ext. 205
Hi English ability and happy to help to the extent of her abilities.
I suggest that you just tell her all and make a clean breast of anything your employer has told you to lie about. She will help you stay and do what you can to salvage a bad situation: Moral of the story: STOP WORKING ILLEGALLY AND GET IT STRAIGHT!
I know that that this runs about 180 degrees from other’s opinions. However, perhaps you can talk to them as they leave at the airport.

I want to thank Enigma for his information which has given me a way to start solving my situation. Thank you, since that was exactly what I was looking for when I got in to this forum…just some sort of help.

As for the rest… “I don’t have nothing to do besides checking my mail and see what stupidity has someone got involved in to” PLEASE!!! signed in to some meditation classes since they help you relax and actually find the best way to manifest your self to people.

And for those who have worst concerns, don’t be afraid of what people could write, just do whatever you can to get the answer you need to make the next move.

Great Forum, thank you so much.

OK…who was closest to 29 Jan @ 1500 hrs in the lottery?
