100th Grey Cup

So, for anyone who’s not Canadian, the Grey Cup is the national Canadian football championship (Canadian football is similar to American football, but with different rules that make it not as slow and dull).

This year is the 100th edition of the championship, which makes is one of the oldest sporting competitions not only in North America, but in the world.

It will contested between the Toronto Argonauts (my home team) and the Calgary Stampeders (a shit team) in Toronto.

ARRRRRRRRRRGOOOOOOOOS!

I’m very excited.

My home team as well.

TSN is not streaming the coverage live but they emailed me and told me they would have a “Field Access Cam” with no play by play.
here tsn.ca/cfl

If I find I download I’ll play it at my bar later that evening.

Go Leafs Go… I mean Go Argos Go.

Go Stamps!

Big Blue Bombers fan here. I can’t cheer for a West Division team, so Argos it is. I still can’t believe Tillman traded Ricky Ray out of Edmonton. Still makes me laugh. Must have been taking pills and boozing it up again when he thought that one up.

Looking forward to watching, early Monday morning for us out here in Asia.

It was a season from hell for my Bombers, but it is nice to see Chris Matthews win the 2012 Most Outstanding Rookie honors. Great stuff. I hope we can hang onto him, but he’s already rumored to be looking to the NFL. Can’t blame him either. $$$

I think the Stamps will win. Growing up, I used to attend a lot of games at McMahon. Shitty stadium that smells like piss but good fans.

Shitty team? Spoken like an eastern bum hahahahahha.

I don’t know what Tillman was thinking, but I’m glad he was thinking it

And yeah, I don’t know what happened to the BlueBombers this year – at least they get that nice new stadium next year to drown their sorrows in.

As for the game, try this site – wiziwig.tv/index.php?part=sports

It’s possible there will be a stream up there; they seem to have everything.

Its nice that people care about the CFL. Growing up out East no one including myself gave a flying fuck (and I am a big football fan), I guess if we had had a team it may have been different.

Anything Toronto deserves to be regurgitated.
Stomp on their skulls, Calgary!
:smiling_imp:

I really hope they get a team down east one day – either Halifax, or at that new stadium in Moncton, I guess.

According to the Facebook posts I read the Moncton game is/was a really big deal. 25,000 plus people who paid inflated ticket prices. Fan support would exist out East (People from Charlottetown, Fredericton, Saint John, and Nova Scotia would make the short ride to Moncton) but they’d have to get a few of the big players on board sponsorship-wise.

Moncton is a better choice than Halifax because of its location (despite the fact Halifax is much bigger) and also New Brunswick has more ‘big’ corporate dollars with the Irvings and the McCains (the third and sixth richest families in the country before the McCains had an ugly split) .

Yup, same sentiments here. I’ve love to see a true coast-to-coast league. Ottawa is still getting things figured out for a return. And then we just need to add one more to make it 10. East Coast!

Yes, Moncton would be good because it’s central, but if they put it there they would need to do some creative deals with local bus companies and airlines to ensure that fans from around the Maritimes could get to the games.

But in terms of that ‘New Brunswick corporate money,’ I’m not so convinced. I don’t know if the Irvings could ever be accused of taking any risks or doing anything outside their comfort zone. You’d think if they were going to get involved with getting a team there they’d have done it already. But who knows.

Ha, Ha, Ha!!!
Love that score.
Sweeeeeeet! Wish I were there!
Aaaaaaargooooooooos!

Toronto deserved to win. The Stamps defense played ok but they just couldn’t get their offense going. And they made some stupid penalties.

That’s the Kevin Glenn I remember.

I was travelling until early December, so I had my parents record the game for me … I only watched it yesterday. Yes, I managed to keep away from the score until now

The game itself was a bit boring, but it was great to see the Dome packed full of loud fans and the Argos win. 180 degree contrast to the Bills game yesterday, which was also full but so quiet you could hear the players talking on the field.

But the NFL is so boring anyway. The CFL truly is a faster, more exciting game.

I like the NFL in addition to the CFL. Different games. Yeah, I like our game better, but the NFL is a pretty polished finished product. I don’t want to see a franchise in any of the major Canadian cities any time soon though.

I watched a bit of the Bills/Seahawks game on Sunday. There were five minutes of commercials, then a kick-off wherein the receiver caught the ball, waved his arms in the air for no catch, stopping the game, and then there was another set of commercials.

:ohreally:

Entertainment factor zero. It’s like hockey now – so many commercials the games are basically unwatchable. The only time I’d watch hockey anymore is playoff overtime.
