Yes, I went to Taipei yesterday afternoon around 3:00 o’clock and stayed until 3:00 in the morning … it was just crazy, a mass of people, a mountain of people, a sea of people, the worst thing was getting home … there was no chance of getting on the MRT the first 2 hours … I had to walk from 101 al the way down to the Donghua MRT station, joining thousands of other to get on a train … but hey I made some nice pics and video, I guess it was worth the suffering.
The crowds were insane. I’ve never seen so many scooters in my life on the streets.
We went to the Minquan Bridge, where there was a great view of 101 and a lot of other places. It was jam-packed with people spilling over into the car lanes. Chaos. We got there just in the nick of time to see 101 explode. Then, just as last year: “SONY BRAVIA” - guess they didn’t learn from last year just how tacky that is. We hung around until the crowd dissipated somewhat, and walked partway home until we saw a bus we could catch.
Glad I saw it, but it paled in comparison to Kentucky’s annual Thunder Over Louisville.
several years ago, I saw this fireworks show in downtown Houston. They call it “Power of Houston” or something, I believe it happened in 1999 or 2000, I forgot when. Talk about big fireworks display… 100 seconds of fireworks… try 45 minutes of pure pyrotechnic fun! Like the whole downtown Houston area was like on fire or something. They had like big ass fireworks, then more fireworks, then laser, and a fighter flying over the downtown area… Traffic was bad but not as bad as Taipei 101. I dont think I have or ever will see a firework show as big as this one…
They gotta do better for the world’s tallest building you know…
Makes me so happy about the view of 101 from the top of my apartment building (on Keelung). Could see the entire show quite well, will try to post pics later.
Though a cool idea, I must admit, the Hong Kong fireworks for National Day were far more impressive.[/img]
Here’s an interesting video clip on CNN. >Link
It shows the different fireworks in Asia, but ticked off my woman when they referred to “Taipei, China”.
One of the main reasons we skipped it. Just way too tacky. Plus, after 15-minute shows in Columbus, who wants to see such a brief show in such a crowded venue?
