Weight Categories (for both days):
l -60 kg
l 60.1-65.0 kg
l 65.1-72.0 kg
l -72.1-79.0 kg
l 79.1-88.0 kg
l 88.1-98.0 kg
l +98 kg
l Absolute (open weight but limited to same belt level)
*should any female competitors attend, weight categories will be decided upon receipt of intent to enter the competition

Rules DAY 1 (Brazilian Jiu-jitsu)
Belt Divisions (Day 1)
Arrangements have been made for the following belt divisions:
l White
l Blue (Black belt in other martial arts ie Judo, aikido, sports jujitsu, and etc… can choose to enter the blue belt category)
l Purple
*Should any higher level competitors wish to attend, then we will do our very best to create an appropriate belt and weight divisions, or match them up in ‘Superfights’

Time Limits:
l White belt – 5 minutes
l Blue belt – 6 minutes
l Purple belt – 7 minutes
l Superfights – TBD
Scoring:
Points will be awarded for successfully holding the following positions for a minimum of 3 seconds:-
l Mount 4 points
l Back (both hooks in) 4 points
l Passing the guard 3 points
l Knee on belly/ chest 2 points
l Throws/takedowns 2 points
l Sweep from the Guard 2 points

*to gain points for the throw/takedown the aggressor must be in a dominant or safe position at completion – that is – in one of the dominant positions above, still standing, or inside the opponents guard. Points will not be awarded for throws/takedowns which result in the aggressor landing in an inferior position

Advantage points (x1 per instance) may be awarded by the referee to competitors demonstrating intent to finish the match and will be used to decide the winner in the event of a points tie at the end of the time limit.
Penalties
l Running from the fight -1 point
l Stalling -1point +stand up
l Dissent -1 point
l Pulling guard without first making contact with opponent –2points
Legal Techniques:
The following are the range of legal techniques for white, blue and purple belt categories
l All arm, shoulder, and wrist locks
l Chokes
l All throws/takedowns
For brown belt and above, all leg and foot locks (except for heel hooks and twisting kneebars) will be permitted.

Illegal techniques:
The following techniques are illegal regardless of belt category and will result in immediate disqualification
l Slamming when in the guard
l Eye gouging or fish-hooking
l Striking or hair pulling
l Small-joint manipulation
l Knees or elbows on the face
l Heel hooks or twisting kneebars
l Bicep and calf slices
l Increasing slipperiness using lubricants of any kind
Winning:
Matches may not end in a draw. A competitor can win as follows:-
l Submission
l Rendering the opponent unconscious using a legal technique
l Having the highest number of points at the end of the time limit
l Opponent is disqualified for using an illegal technique
*if no winner can be determined at the end of the time limit- the match will be restarted under ‘sudden death’ conditions – the first competitor to score points of any kind will be declared the winner.
