🏃 🏃‍♀️ 2024 Taiwan Runner's Thread

So there actually is a beer mile event next year. After check-in for the triathon. It’s in Taidong.

I did a 10k practice run the other day. Hurting at 8, but parking at the finish line gave me motivation!

Got my Green Island shirt and bib yesterday. They spared no expense-- the shirt is awful. lol

Why cutsie? All the time? Schools, bathrooms, tourism stops? Why. Taiwan why?!

Also, keep getting “insurance” emails for the Matsu Marathon. I don’t recall asking for any and think it’s a scam. They want a photo of my passport and ARC. Fuckdat.

I think insurance is required no?

Didn’t do that for the GI run or the Donghe run neither.

Well sort it out and update. I believe there’s a waiver and a non liability warning. My-ahem- assistant signs me up for these things.

Yeah the event has all the usual accident insurance in place. So you’re covered already except for eg heart attack and you already had been diagnosed with heart disease.

Here in Hualien City. I did my usual stair run on Meilun Mountain, which is in the middle of the city. You can tell from these charts how many sets of stairs I ran. The third set is brutal and is where I hit my max heart rate. Three minutes of intense pain.

How old are you, if you don’t mind saying, and do you know what your hr max is?

I’m in my fifties. I hit in the 170s from time to time, every once in a while 180. My resting heart rate is about 65, sometimes I see it lower (high 50s). Why do you ask?

Just curious where your working hr is relative to max.

Waiting to see if the 10/6 Green Island run will be cancelled.

If it is, it will be rescheduled for 10/13.

Can you let us know how the ocean is this time of year? And the weather there? I would love to go to Green Island again sometime (not this year) before the winter starts.

I leave tomorrow. Hope the ocean is tired and calm.

Ocean calm and tired. Closed my eyes, focused on my breathing and boom goes the dynamite, we wuz there.

Crowded place, think Kending full of divers and snorkelers. They’re setting up the marathon stuff, which is wild as Matsu set up several days in advance— this race is tomorrow. Delay surely due to the typhoon. :cyclone:

It. Is. Hot.

Glad my race begins at 5:50AM. Just tracked the course. Gonna be a nice view either way. Hopefully no headwind.

Thought that tent was the 10k turnaround but it is not. Just a. Watering station.

The last two km though starts with .5km downhill, easy slope. Should be a hoot. :owl:

Many moons ago we did a cycle around the island. Was great, but veeeery hilly in parts. How’s the route for your run? I imagine the peaks and troughs cancel each other out. Got a target time?

So it’s still hopping. Good to know. Good luck on the run.

The 10k is down the shore line to the big beach. Turnaround is just past that.

The hills are slight, a bit more challenging at the turnaround, but as soon as you get to the top you turn right around and go back down.

My guy tells me going up won’t hurt too much and going down will be a comfortable longer stride.

The cut off is 2.5 hours, so before then. lol

I don’t really pay too much mind to that stuff. A 15 minute mile is just as long as a six minute mile. My workouts have been around 80 minutes, but I don’t really push myself that way. I just run.

But when you run with runners I feel your time goes down. The 6k I did earlier this year was 36 minutes, and I may add, I’m in way better shape now. So who knows? :woman_shrugging:

Sunset and my last meal. :shallow_pan_of_food:
