20th century technology that still works

A great example of 20th century tech that work are POS systems. 80s and 90s systems are built like tanks.

Just because credentials can be shared doesn’t mean you will successfully authenticate. There are many other constraints that can be added - MAC id, mobile secure element. It’s not like the netflix auth you’re talking about.

that’s what esim is all about. Hopefully in the next decade it’ll replace physical sims.

Reminds me about the old days. Some WiFi hotpots, especially at airports offered 15 min free Internet access after leaving personal data. Used to change my MAC address instead of paying for access.

you can change mac address in laptops. not in phones. and as i said there are many other techniques.

I’m not very updated, but quite sure I remember someone telling me it’s possible. Maybe it was a custom ROM and a very specific phone.

Did you know in the states certain carriers charge you to take your sim card out of your phone and put it into a different phone?

You mean if you buy a “locked” phone, right?

Just always buy unlocked – problem solved. :slightly_smiling_face:
