A few moths ago I bought a setup from Hinet with 3 static IP addresses and 12MB/1MB bandwidth. The performance increase was great, and now I wish to add my girlfriend’s computer to the connection using one of the other IP addresses I have. I do not use a router or a hub. I just have an ADSL modem with 4 LAN ports. My current setup goes like this.
Inbound connection to house > Modem with 3 IP addresses and 4 LAN ports > Ethernet card on my own comuter.
Now I want the same, but like this:
Inbound connection to house > Modem with 3 IP addresses and 4 LAN ports > Ethernet card on both my and my girlfriend’s computers via different cables and using different IPs.
I have set up the TCP/IP protocol the same on each computer, but with a different final numbers of a static IP address on my girlfriend’s computer. So, the ADSL modem has 2 lines leading out of it, 1 to mine and the other to my GF’s with static IP’s set up in exactly the same way. Mine works, the modem light doesn’t even flash on her’s, nor does the ADSL line light flash on the modem. The modem accepts her Cable Modem, but not my ADSL modem. I can’t take the cable modem line out of its wall socket because it was sealed in. Her’s won’t even work if I disconnect mine and use my cable on her computer from the same modem port. Can’t figure out why this is happening. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

I can follow you up till this point, and I have this exact setup at home (working perfectly).
But now, I start getting confused.
Why are you mentioning her cable modem? Is the LAN cable not coming straight from her computer to the second LAN port on your ADSL modem?

Still confused, but anyway…
You say you tried your cable and the LAN connector you would usually use on your computer with her computer and it still doesn’t work.
Did you try setting her IP address to the one you would usually use on your computer?

No, but I have 3 IPs and tried one of the others. I had them before I moved to her appartment and they worked fine with my mates laptop while I used my own IP on my own computer.
Even so, I think it’s worth trying all possibilities. The fact that you moved might have a bearing, or maybe Hinet’s done something weird, like cancelled one of the IPs.
If you try the first IP (the one that definitely works on your PC) on your GF’s computer and it doesn’t work, then you’ll know for sure that it’s your GF’s computer that’s the problem (probably some setting on it). However, if that IP address WORKS on your GF’s computer, then you know it’s the other IP number that’s the problem.
Finally, I know this defies logic, but these ARE computers we’re talking about. They’re anything but logical …
IF the first IP works with your GF’s computer, then try the second IP on your computer. Who knows? It just might work (though it IS unlikely).
