Hey guys, I’m planning to go to bangkok in may. I was told they sell sim cards at the airport that allow u to use 3g there. anyone have anymore information into pricing and how much it will allow me to use? i tried to google but didnt come up with much. thanks!
anyone know how fast the BTS is in bangkok? i’m looking to stay at ekkemai station, and want to know how long it’d be by BTS to get to grand palace…any ideas? thanks!
Pick one up at any 7/11 as easy as picking up a candy bar. Cheap and fast.
I have a 3G data SIM for my iPad. And full SIM for iPhone. Both for holidays around Thailand.

There’s no BTS near the Grand Palace - that place is a right pain to get to.
Quickest way is the BTS to Phaya Thai or Rathetewi, then a taxi the rest of the way.
As for the 3g - as said, just pick up a sim from anywhere - though easiest is at the airport at the arrivals lounge. I use AIS, who have now upgraded their Bangkok connections - you can choose to be billed either by time or MB. Personally I go for the 100baht for 20hours - though if you want an always on, it’s not going to be so useful - 1GB is only 350baht though

Very easy to buy sim cards in 7/11. Most of travellers do so.
As mentioned in previous message no bts station nearby, national stadium is the neareast bts station, or MRT line is hualongpong station. from there, take a taxi or tuktuk or walk if you have time (1 hour).

this is a tad off topic, but what should i do about money exchange? should i exchange NT to baht in taiwan before i go or should i do the exchange in bangkok? where do you recommend i go to get the best rate? i know im going to get screwed if i do it at the airport. also, should i exchange NT into baht or change NT to USD and then bring USD to thailand?
Never exchange Thai money out the country - Thailand has 2 rates - an onshore and an offshore.
Do it when you get to Thailand - HOWEVER - do NOT exchange at a bank or at the airport, the rate there will be similar to the Taiwan rates.
Go to a place called SuperRich (superrich.co.th - they have a number of branches) and you will get the proper rate.
As an example, Bank of Taiwan is currently 0.85 Baht to the TWD. Kasikorn (Thai Bank) is 0.86 - However SuperRich is 1.04!!
thanks for the advice. do they charge a service fee? a % of the amount exchanged? almost every bank in taiwan charges u a service fee…which is crap!

Actually, thinking about it, yes they do, but I seem to remember it wasn’t too high.
I used to live there, so I just did a large transfer from the UK every few months.
It used to be cost effective to just use ATMs, but there is now a 150 baht withdrawal fee each time (on top of whatever your home bank charges) - so bear that in mind if you’re thinking to go that route.
on another unrelated note, im trying to plan the order of the temples but from what im researching, i cant figure out which order would be best:
Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun
I know grand palace and Wat Phra Kaew are literally next door, but where are wat pho and wat arun in relation to grand palace? if wat pho and wat arun near each other as well? can anyone give me the order i should do this, the estimated times between each place and the best mode of transportation for each place?
