50,000 words in one month

Do you know this outfit:
nanowrimo.org

The challenge is to write a 50,000-word ‘novel’ between November 1 and 30. I first thought this was a good way for a new writer to get discovered, until I noticed that last year 13,000 people succeeded in finishing the task.

So it looks like really fun but nothing more. To most writers, it might look like a complete waste of time, since there is no possibility of getting discovered or winning a publishing or agenting contract through this event.

BTW, their web site claims they have 22 members in Taiwan.

Probably from some crackpot children’s English school.

Maybe we could get 50,000 people to each write 1 word

That’s silly! It would be much easier to get 49,998 people to write one word each and one person to write two words. You really need to learn some time management skills!

Talk about silly, you could’ve written the first chapter already but instead wasted your words on the above post.

Anyone can drone on a pile of drivel for 50,000 words fairly easily. To quote Capote on Kerouac, “That’s not writing, that’s typing.”

“Not bad, but it’s only 49,900 words so it doesn’t qualify. Better luck next time.”

Is anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year?
