600 TWD an hour to teach 8 year old kids in Taipei is ok?

Yep,very normal. I’m sick of hearing Taiwanese get way less than teachers, it’s simply not true. Any public worker on a permanent contract is doing WAY better, they are set up for life. Why do you think there are so many hiking shops selling stuff to older people in Taiwan ?
Then any type of semi skilled professional , manager etc in a big company, they will be doing better due to the bonuses and regular and stable pay. Lawyers, doctors and engineers obviously can command high incomes.
Labouring work unfortunately doesn’t pay well, but skilled tradespeople cab also do just fine.

Factoring in bonuses, my wife now earns almost as much as me. She optionally went halves on tax this year for the first time, which was a nice surprise. I think she was embarrassed when she saw the numbers.

Now, I just have to work on her contributing to the rent…

Welcome to Taiwan’s egalitarian world where mine is mine and yours is mine.

You could share your tax returns and claim in laws to lower tax rates.

We get my parents. Her older sisters get her parents. I don’t know why.
