For sad music, you’ve got to go country. Here are my two nominations (both Canadian, too!)
I agree. Most of the songs that really choke me up are country or folk songs.
Do you really want to listen to sad songs on CNY to add to the depressing ambience of TV, chatter, firecrackers and forced gaiety?

I try my best.
Using a different definition od “sad”, I find Lady Gaga to be pretty sad. Oh, and Justin Beiber, and all “gansta rap”.
I always found this song really sad. It’s like a friend calling you up and baring his or her soul…“if only I’d thought of the right words”
How about the most depressing song ever written?
Billy Bragg is good at sad:
I second ‘Pictures of You’.
‘Hyacinth House’ also tends to choke me up a little. Not as much as Rocky’s Theme, though:
Damn I’m crying now
The story being told here always gets me.
I know someone who experienced this probably twice. The second time ended more quickly. He’s learning, I guess. (But maybe I’m not as I treated a bunch of people to dinner to celebrate what I thought was an imminent marriage for him.)
you want sad? you couldn’t handle the sad…
Surprised no one mentioned this. Gets me every time.
