A dose of realism for Taiwanese independence advocates
If PRC was such a terrible place, they would have found way to manage their business without being there.

Every ABC and ROC citizen I spoken to enjoys themselves on while doing business on the mainland.

I think your relative will defend his business interest. Let put it this way TI supporters will renounce their TI interest in ROC newpapers in order to appease the PRC. It is just human nature, self interest above all else.

ROC business people are realistic to the point of cold heartedness by western standards you seem to be so fond of.
I enjoy myself when I’m in China too, and its mostly because they know I have money.

That doesn’t change the fact that I’m a TI supporter, my passport says Taiwan, and China lets me through and gives my family incredible tax incentives.

If I didn’t know TI/ers inside and out, I wouldn’t know what this guy is bragging about. But I do, and I know. It’s pathetic. I hope he is enjoying his VD, too.

Doesn’t change the fact that you have to uphold One China by getting a Taibaozheng either. So much for that. Yeah, what can you do, TI/ers’ integrity is as good as “a TI/er’s integrity.”

Where did you go in China? And what do you think about the places you visited?

This must be a new feeling for you. Even if people know you have money, they can still choose not to let you have a pleasant experience.

China despite the bad press the western media likes to promote, is a pretty safe place, and for the most part people are friendly to people coming from outside the mainland.

Go ahead support your version of TI. Don’t you get it yet. PRC doesn’t care what you personally believe in as long as you don’t cause a disturbance to the public.

You can have the secret desire to poison people, but as long as you don’t act out your criminal desire, it is okay.

My point being the ASL. It clearly states “If you declare TI, PRC will attack.” So the PRC is restricted as well on what conditions they can attack ROC.

Only stupid people will try to resolve a situation by forcing the government to shoot you. Smart people have better things to do with the 1 life they are given, like thinking about more cunning solution to ensure ROC political survival.

The PRC knows better than to attack Taiwan as it would give the USA its chance to force a regime change.

By the way, the ROC is dead. Former KMT leader and Former President Lee Teng Hui has already stated that. Get over it.

I’m willing to take bets that ROC will at least survive 1 day longer than LTH.

Is that a fact? I see all the Republic of China flags flying proudly on all of Taipei’s major boulevards, and we’ll be celebrating its birthday on Monday. The diplomatic allies that Taiwan does have, no matter how few (and how insignificant) are allies of the Republic of China, last time I checked.

The Republic of China has lasted this long, against all odds. My bet is that it can keep on going, just fine, especially considering the fact that the people with the real clout in Taiwan aren’t loud-mouthed independence advocates.

What exactly does Li Denghui stand for at this point? He’s trying in vain to get attention by making outrageous and just profoundly idiotic statements, so far-fetched that at times it’s truly amusing to listen to and read what he says. His pathetic efforts to prop up Taiwanese nationalism are laughable. Promote Taiwanese over Mandarin? Glad he’s got the support of the betel nut lobby for that one. Perhaps some pompous academics too (maybe the morons who created Tonyong Pinyin) Trying to confuse people about their identities here by saying that Taiwanese people cannot be both Chinese and Taiwanese? Wrong again, Li, unless of course you are talking about Taiwan’s aboriginals, the “true Taiwanese people,” not the imperialists from Fujian Province who took their land.

Long live the Republic of China. Li and the TSU should get the hell out of the ROC and pay their respects to their true forefathers, the war criminals enshrined at Yasukuni.

This is a really great “newspaper”! I love it!

Everyday there are editorials and “news articles” reiterating their firm stance of supporting TI.

The letters are a blast! They pick and choose the same writers who essentially bitch about the same stuff every time. Lately, there have been a number of very angry TI supporters appearing in the “newspaper” apparently concerned about the year end election and ultimately 2008.

It is so hilarious to see how incredibly bitter they are about the possibility of the DPP/TSU losing to the KMT/PFP. You could just see the writer turning red as s/he is typing this letter. Its really funny, here is one from today -

These guys are the best at manipulating data, contradicting their own articles, replacing certain words from real news sources such as Reuters and AP, and just plain lying to the readers. They seem to be such hard-asses about their lost cause too, so its kind of refreshing to see them get a wake-up call from their very own.

You know, it’s always funny to see them care so much to write letters all the way from the US to tell the other camp how to win elections… to tell people how to convert to being a “proper” Taiwanese… and to tell the CCP how to run China… It’s like they want to be relevant, not by making themselves relevant, but by alternatingly pretending they are omnipotent masters in charge and other times playing powerless “pained” victims of shadowy enemies. I’ll be damned if that’s not the sign of a psychotic movement.
