A few questions regarding visa run to HK

I’ve read the ‘visa run for dummies’ thread and still have few questions. I will be pushing for the 60 day multiple entry extendable visa. I have a South African passport.

How much money needs to be reflected in your bank account? I hear 2000USD or 3000USD. Which is it? I have all my money from teaching work in cash. Can I deposit it all into my Taiwan bank account and show them that? Is it possible to just show them the cash in hand at the place? Can I print out my bank statement from the Internet of my home country if I so desire?

I have a Taiwanese girlfriend who can write me a letter of invitation. Does this need to be written in English or Chinese? She will be accompanying me and will have her ID with her. Is this a good or bad thing? I’m thinking good.

I have read something along the lines of an additional letter stating my further reasons for being in Taiwan. Is this necessary? I believe you must not tell them you plan to teach English. I have multiple entries to Taiwan though and an original visitors visa stamp from over a year ago. Will this not lead them to ask questions? I have been on an ARC for all of this time.

Do I need to show an outbound flight for the end of the 60 days?

Much obliged for any elucidation.

60 day multiple entry extendable visa from HK, because you have a SA passport and an invitation letter?

Dream on … I was married and have a Belgian passport and they refused to give me the above, just got a 60 day visa … because I didn’t do a HIV test.

This was 10 years ago tho, I hope for you they changed the rules.

Ok then. What would increase my chances of getting the extendable visa?

Go there and ask …

They are making up criteria as they go … but fancy clothing would be a plus, not getting angry is another plus … having all your papers ready … the right ones …

But basically TECO’s don’t’ give extendable visa outside the country of the applicant … and even in your own country it can be difficult …

As a South African, the agreement with the Taiwan government is 60 days (max) NON-extendable and single entry. Maybe you’ll get lucky if you ask nicely. Or phone them beforehand and ask what you need. Their office number are: +852 2525 8315 or +852 9314 0130.

Good luck!
