Well, Christmas has gone and a New Year is almost here. I think that now-ish, a Thursday afternoon, is about the right time to wish all forumosans out there all the best for the coming year and to thank all those forumosans I have met - without this website, there are quite a number with whom I would never have become better acquainted - for their patronage, input, criticism and comments over the last 6+ years I have been at Carnegie’s. So thank you for that and keeping me on my toes. Thanks also to those who have become friends (you know who you are, so no need to list names) and added much to life in Taiwan. To those that have browsed and continually browse and who I may never have met, I wish you also all the best for 2008. I myself shall hand over the reins to a successor on January 6th and will leave Taiwan two days later. This country has been good to me and I have very much enjoyed living here for six and a half years. I shall miss many but I have chosen to move on and fulfill a childhood ambition elsewhere. I hope that you will all continue to go down to Carnegie’s for all the reasons you currently do for it is the staff and managers that really make the place tick on a daily basis. For me, they are truly the best bunch of professionals I have ever had the privelege to work with and my thanks also to them. I will naturally have the opportunity to thank them all, so I’d better let you know that from 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 3rd, Carnegie’s will be closed while the staff and I go out for a slap up Chinese dinner. Open again on Friday 4th for lunch etc. Some of you will be getting PM’s to invite you for farewell drinks and the time and date details will be in them. That’s it really; possibly my last post. Wow. Six and a half years… It seemed so much longer! haha Anyway, Bon Voyage. It has been fun and Carnegie’s has made a real contribution to the food, drink and fun scene in Taipei. Who could imagine Taipei without Carnegie’s? Who can imagine Carnegie’s without Bob? ---

You can also rest assured that you will be remembered with fondness, albeit by a much smaller number of people with VERY questionable taste indeed. The end of an era, and I really do not envy your successor – those mouldy old Timberlands will take a LOT of filling. All the very, very best to you Bob in your sojourn. You’re making a lot of us lubbers extremely envious. And no, you needn’t even THINK about it – if J comes to visit in some sunkissed foreign clime, it’ll be with ME in tow. Oh I remember Taipei before Carnegies, you had to go all the way to Taichung to get anything even remotely like decent foreign grub! I only wish your next venture was to come here and improve HK’s offerings. All the very best to you, Bob. I may see you there for final winkie pops yet! HG ---

Let me be the very first to say that you have made many, many people’s lives that much better here in Taiwan. Let me also be the very first to say that this is the end of an era and that your replacement will have very big shoes to fill. I hope the sex change operation goes well and congratulations on being able to finally fulfill that childhood dream! P.S. In all sincerity, it has been a pleasure to meet you and you have personally made my life here better. I will see you before you go. ---
