I’m looking for a good psychiatrists in Taipei who can prescribe ritalin for my ADD.
I’m assuming a prescription is required to obtain it here as it is in the US.

If you have medical proof for your condition, you can probably go to any hospital and they will do it for you.

Really?! You think it’s as easy as getting some paperwork together from my old doctor in the US? I’ve heard that drugs are very restricted here. Do you know someone who has succesfuly done this?

I don’t know anyone personally but in my experience most of the Doctors are friendly here. You can first try a small hospital, Taipei city hospital, zhongxiao branch. Good luck

I recommend Wanfang Community Hospital. They have a very foreigner-friendly psychiatric department.

There was a story yesterday that there’s an online mental health service being offered. You click your mouse, fill in a questionnaire, and they’ll direct you to the nearest mental health facility to where you live. I don’t have the actual website to hand, but its operated by the Department of Health. The mental health thing is in its infancy here, sure, but the awareness is definitely here.

I have ADHD, and back in the States I took adderall. Went to NTU Hospital (not sure what it stands for) and asked a psychiatrist about it, apparently Taiwan doesn’t import the stuff. Don’t know about ritalin, but among the three psychiatrists I’ve seen, all spoke adequate english, were pretty friendly and seemed professional. I recommend NTU Hospital.

Thanks so much guys! This is a big help.

NTU = National Taiwan University (Hospital), or Tai-Da.

Ritalin is definitely available here and prescribed for ADD/ADHD. Getting it prescribed to you with your history of ADD shouldn’t be a problem.
