A new music night in Taipei

I’m sick of the night scene in Taipei. I can’t stand going to these clubs here and listening to their shitty hip-hop or whatever other stuff they have on.

So, a few months ago I decided to stop complaining and do something about it. We organised a (mostly) indie guitar music night (also some motown, soul, funk, britpop) at the Source bar. It went down well with those who went but that was only about 50 people and most were my mates. The soul and motown went down really well and it was a great night but just wish we could get more people down to enjoy it.

We are thinking about trying again. So what i want to ask is…

What kind of music would you like to hear? Last time we played very indie stuff with a few classic songs, wondering if we need to make it more mainstream? Maybe some cheesy stuff? Maybe some more 70’s/80’s classics?

Is the Source bar a good venue? We choose there last time because Webster is a friend and they will do a $500 all you can drink deal.

Would anyone like to get involved? I’m open to letting other people come and do some DJing as long as the music fits in somewhere. I don’t really want to DJ, just want somewhere good to get drunk and try to dance like Bez.

I’d appreciate any suggestions.

Go see NEON band at riverside cafe on Dec 7th … they will give you some awesome indie rock and of course you can have as many beers as you want at the bar.

I would like a goth/industrial night, but I know that is probably too much to ask for. Sigh. But cheesy 80’s music is always good. Who does not love cheesy 80’s music?
Some good Depeche Mode and New Order would go down very well.
We built this city…we built this city on Rock and Roll, and 80’s cheeeeeeseeee!
