Hello. I am currently not getting enough hours at my first school that is sponsoring me for an ARC. Consequently I have been shopping around for more hours. I have found a school that is interested in giving me more hours and a second work permit as I am interested in being entirely legal. Can somebody tell me about the process of doing this? Also I have advance word that my first school may not be happy about this :raspberry: . Does anybody have any advice on dealing with this situation if the first school starts to raise a stink? Thank you very much.
Don’t you need permission from your primary work permit holder? I’d like to find out that’s wrong…
I never had to ask my employer for permission, but that may have been because she needed me more than I needed her. She knew I would walk if she refused my second job. So who knows the truth?
Thank you. But what I really need to know is how to get two work permits on one ARC. Not how to transfer my ARC as I am not looking to quit my first job. I want to work at two jobs legally.
Same procedure except you stop before the ‘quit your first job’ step.
It is actually very simple. Just have the second place apply for the work permit. You will probably need to do the physical again and give them some other items. Remember that for a teaching job you must have at least 14 teaching hours or you will not get the permit.
When the paper work is complete go to your local FAP and add it. Remember to bring the work permit from the first job, as they might want to see that again.
There is no need to tell your first job, however for your own protection you might want to look at your contract to see if there is anything that says, “No second job without permission.” I had that in my first contract.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you guys! Xie-xie. My contract may have a clause that says no second job. I don’t know. I wonder if it is legal to no allow second jobs now that it is permissable to have a second job on your ARC?
My primary employer is renewing my work permit through the MOE now, and just scared me with a phone call saying ‘we may be in trouble’. Turns out the MOE now wants your paid tax certificate before processing your work permit renewal, and if the income thereupon exceeds the contracted amount through your primary employer they may question it and ask to see the tax withholding certificates accounting for the remainder of the income. The person my boss talked to at the ministry told her that since my remaining income wasn’t from my primary employer we would be in big trouble.
I insisted that I had a 2nd work permit covering the remainder of the income, and offered to send a copy of that to the MOE. My boss talked to the MOE again, informing them of this, and apparently they were adequately appeased by the fact that the remainder of the income is legal. So now I have to give them 1. the certification of tax paid, 2. tax withholding certificates, and 3. a copy of my 2nd work permit.
Phew! I hate this shit.
Anyway, make sure you’ve applied for a work permit for any 2nd job you’ve got (especially if the income is reported to the tax bureau) or you may end up in trouble.
If you do have a 2nd work permit, you need to take that, plus your passport, ARC AND a letter from the 2nd employer stating that you are still employed there (called a 在職證明 zai4 zhi2 zheng4 ming2) and have the immigration office stamp that on your ARC.
EDIT: Apparently the labor affairs bureau is NOT satisfied with the fact that I had a valid work permit for the 2nd job. I’m not sure of all the details yet, but I think I’m gonna get an ulcer from this shit.
