A small victory -The original story!

Perhaps, in your criticisms, some of you are attempting to make us feel bad about this incident, but it won’t work. We don’t feel bad about this at all.

And as we are going about our daily business, if we happened to end up in this kind of situation again…

…I’m sure we would react in much the same way.

Now please, feel free to carry on with your judgements as you were.
Original: Lawbreaking cyclists win the waiting game, and after wasting 15 minutes of everyone’s time, are scolded by locals for the trouble they caused. No victor.

Sequel (includes humorous photos/dialogue): Lawbreaking taxi driver loses the waiting game, and is punished by police. Victor: Everybody else.
LOL. I think, after reading both threads, that this is one of those rare occasions where the sequel really is better than the original.

You’re travelling the wrong way down a one way street, cutting off a taxi driver who has the right of way, and you then stubbornly (mistakenly, as you later found out) hold your ground until you’ve thoroughly pissed off a taxi driver who has done nothing wrong, his wife, neighbors and passers-by, and a line of taxis waiting to get through.

You should feel bad about not feeling bad. :loco:

:unamused: It’s a funny story. Where’s the fun in arguing and winding people up if you know you are right?

In Taiwan rule and laws are like a fog, a mist … nothing is clear, it changes from day to day … right of way is just how you see it that moment … GUNG-HO! …

I love this thread.  :yay:  :yay:

That’s taking it a bit far. Granted, it was stupid, but I think the fact that it was the taxi driver’s wife yelling at him to get him to move seems to suggest that the Taiwanese are relatively willing to accommodate a pair of misguided foreign girls. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s a funny story, yes, but sadly won’t help the perception of foreigners here. I’m not so sure it would be a good idea to react in the same way if something similar happened again, though. :loco: Another taxi driver might not have a more forgiving wife by his side!

This is why I like DM’s story better. At least there, the taxi driver really was a dickhead.

It doesn’t really matter who was right and who was wrong … fact is that many people here don’t give shit about anyone … are so self centered and occupied mentally that they don’t think about what’s right or wrong.
Just yesterday as I was in taipei a woman moved her scooter out of the parking spot and blocked the entire sidewalk … than started strapping on her helmet and didn’t even consider moving it to let pas other people until I walked up to her with an angry face and wanted to step over her scooter … only than she reacted and moved it out of the way … :s :eh:
