HakkaSonic, your post is quite amusing but I think the main issue here is what happens after the relationship ends. In the case of the foreign male in Taiwan they might just leave Taiwan, feel a bit sad for a few weeks or whatever. But generally they will move on. They won’t let it consume their entire life for years.

Disagree with you wix. Maybe you wouldn’t let it consume your entire life but I think a not small number of foreigers would, especially those who would be considered nerds back home, come here and have a girlfriend for the first time in their lives, and take the breakup very hard. Seen them, met them, gotten my sleeve wet in bars listening to a couple of them.

Maybe you can engage your brain and think about that. Look around. You may see that some foreign guys are geeky, some are not. Some may possibly be here only for girls, some not. Form your own judgement, then let us know your considered opinion.
blueullyses, good point, but not really true. guys come here, not to get laid, but to work and travel and see the world. and once here, they realize that they can get laid, so they do. But is is NOT why they come here. If they were realy sex tourists they would go to Thailand where it is cheap, or to Tokyo where it is everywhere, but expensive. They would not come to Taiwan for sex. But once here, they realize, hey, the goils aint bad looking and why not. PLEASE, blueullyses, be careful when you dish. But yes, no yelling. i know this is not entirely true…but i really do think it’s quite a prevalant general stereotype…i know two white guys who are off to taiwan…two very good looking white guys in fact and they’re not sexual tourists…but even they are aware of this general stereotype of foreigners going there and laugh about it…so just throwing it in the mix!
you cannot blame these mothers and fathers thinking that all foreigners (both men and women) just want to have sex, that is what the western movies portrayed and these people, without having much interaction with westerners, form their impression with what they see on movies, where i came from, some elder, rural people who had never travelled to the east, thought that chinese women just want to have sex too (that was what they saw obviously on pornography where chinese females were stereotyped to be sex goddess or nymphomaniac)

C’mon, many Taiwanese think it’s hilarious to say, “Hey, man!” when addressing a waiguoren - everything they know about the West comes from watching Hollywood B-movies. Yes, of course all male foreigners just want to take advantage of innocent xiaojies, and all female foreigners are easy sluts just like in Sex & the City. Most foreigners here probably aren’t out just for the sex, because if they were, mainland China or Cambodia or the Philippines or Japan or Thailand or Eastern Europe or Latin America - practically half the world - would be much, much easier places to get laid. Maybe it’s just that I’m in the most traditional and conservative city in Taiwan, but I had it much easier finding women back home - Taiwan has been a drain on my dating life because so many of the people here are still stuck in a hypocritical 1950s attitude towards sex and dating. I mean, I’m in my late 20s and half the women I meet my age are still living with their parents, and half of those still have to call in to report back to mom & pop, “Where are you going out tonight? What time will you be back?” Taiwanese women, I’ve observed, will never openly flirt with a waiguoren in public, out of fear of appearing like a dirty slut. And contrary to popular mythology borne out by regular attendees of that Roxy Vibe pub y’all keep talking about in Taipei, 95% of Taiwanese women prefer Taiwanese men.
So yeah - work, travel, see the world, have fun learning to read Chinese, those are reasons I’m here. But sex? You oughta hear what American guys in the Czech Republic and Brazil have to say about how fun they’re having with the local birds - Taiwan has nothing to offer in comparison.
